Potholes are a terrible thing to have for many reasons. Firstly, they are down right dangerous to drivers and pedestrians. Many times people will swerve their vehicles in an attempt to avoid potholes. This leads to them swerving towards cars and trucks in the opposing lane, or towards pedestrians on the side walk. Either way it is a recipe for disaster.
Another large problem with potholes is that they can cause serious damage to a person’s vehicle. Each time a person's car slips into a pothole he wreaks havoc on his suspension and undercarriage. This may not seem like a big deal, but it costs drivers nation wide millions of dollars a year. The only people that can possibly {benefit~gain} from pot holes are mechanics, car companies, and replacement part dealers.
Lastly, potholes make the streets look terrible. It is very easy to see how much attention and maintenance a street is getting just by looking at it. Just like you know nobody is mowing a house's lawn when the grass is high, you know when nobody is taking care of the roads when there are potholes. You might be thinking, why should I care how my street looks? Well the reason you should care is because having a street that looks bad devalues the price of your home. All things equal, a person will buy a home on a well maintained street before he will buy one on a street with pot holes.
Now that you know why you should be worrying about the driveway pothole on your street, you may want to start thinking of how you can help. The problem is that you probably don't have the equipment to fix a pothole on your own. You would need a way to heat up the asphalt, an asphalt compactor and all the other tools of the trade. This equipment can be expensive and you probably wouldn't want to purchase it just to fix some pot holes.
In addition to the cost of the asphalt repair equipment, you would also have to worry about training. This is a job that takes professional training. You can't just watch a Youtube video on fixing pot holes. Attempting to use asphalt repair equipment without training is dangerous and you could end up hurting yourself or others.
The best thing to do is to hire a professional. If you don't want to cover all of the costs of fixing the pot hole yourself, you could always ask your neighbors to chip in. Remember to explain to them how the pot hole is affecting them. Make sure they feel the same desire for fixing the pothole that you do. Tell them to think of it as an investment. The value of their house will go up and the amount of money they spend on fixing their cars each year will go down. Wouldn't it be great to be able to drive down your street without worrying about falling into that nasty pothole? Wouldn't it also be great to know that your kids will never be run over by a person swerving to avoid the pothole?
