Classical singing performances are favored in most parts of the world. The singers have to be trained thoroughly for the same.
If history says that the Great Musician Tansen could bring down rain by singing the Monsoon raga ‘Megh-Malhar’, don’t be too surprised. It would not be wrong to say that in some way or the other, Indian classical music can work all the way from simple charm to awe inspiring miracles. No one can tell with exact figures, when the music crept into the lives of humans or for that matter, what inspired it. What inspired music as it is today, still remains a mystery. Was it the birds, was it the mountains or the deserts, was it the gentle sound that a flowing stream made as it passed through rocks, was it the red aura of the dawn or quiet of the dark blue dusk, or was it the mighty waves clashing with the cliff sides, or gentle rain pouring over a silent valley. Indian classical music seems to be a celebration of all these and more.

People can understand this better by referring to all the ragas that denote some specific aspect of nature. Classical music thus, bears an undeniable and inextricable relation with nature and the also the vast unfathomable expanse on which creation rests . . . which we know as the universe. Some experts have also expressed their belief as music being the language of the universe, and there is nothing more than an ordinary listener can do than believe in it. There are so many who found it very hard to believe till they attended classical musical concerts held and participated by trained experts in the field. Getting introduced to the charm of ragas is as divine an experience as getting to understand nature in its truest form.

Music may be the language of the universe, but the world would certainly need experts to speak it. Learning Indian classical music is not everybody’s cup of tea. There are far too many factors that are associated with it and to some it may often seem discouraging. To begin with, people will have to be born with some quality in their vocal cords that will enable them to absorb the music lessons. Then it takes the will of the learner to make the ultimate decision to learn. And then comes the most trying of all tasks and that is finding the right instructor. Without proper training, the hope of making it big in Classical music is as good as gone.

Unfortunately, not all places in the world houses good trainers. Kolkata (West Bengal, India) is among those places that has very good trainers, as a result of which expert trained Traditional Thumri Singer in Kolkata is not very difficult to find. In fact, when it comes to making breath taking performances all over the world, classical singers in Kolkata are among the first to be considered. Right training and seriousness in the art are non negotiable factors in the part of a trainee to get a hold of Indian classical music and also master in it. Hard work, dedication and devotion matters the most.
