Getting Your Bearings
Moving home can be quite a stressful event, particularly when you have grown attached to your previous home. A lot of people fret about their happy memories and favorite spots in their old homes. While the new house may be perfectly great to live in, the attachment to their old home prevents them from fully being able to appreciate what they have.
So in order for you to make the most of your move, you need to prepare yourself from the move. The best thing you can do is to take note about the different aspects of your current home that makes it really important for you. It may be the atmosphere in your living room, or how you night lamp illuminates your library, or simply how the sun enters your bedroom in the morning. These are very house specific elements and it would be helpful if you can recreate them in your new home as well.
Doing Your Comfort Research
Identifying the positive things about your old home is important. These are the very same elements that you might want to look for in your new house. While completely duplicating it would be impossible and unrealistic, you can take similar elements and use it. Take pictures of your favorite spot so you can see what particular elements are present there.
Simple elements like a favorite pillow, armchair or other commonly used items can be easily moved into your new home. But if the ambience is brought about by the lighting or another element, then you might want to consider creating a substitute. Once you are done analyzing what elements you can bring from your old home into your new house, you can begin determining what new things you would want to have.
Moving home means that you should also consider new things. Even old comforts can be enhanced or even replaced by completely new ones. You will be able to enjoy your new home better by recognizing the fact that it is new, and even if you can bring in old comforts, there are a lot of new and exciting elements to be enjoyed in your new house.
Picture your current furnishings in your new home and try to visualize what else you can add into the picture; a careful auditing of what you currently have and what you can buy in order to create a move home like atmosphere. The important thing is that you try to enjoy the activity, as long as you are having fun, you will be able to succeed.
Making the Move
Before you make the move itself, take the time to document your old home with pictures and other memorabilia. Just because you are moving does not mean you should let go of all the fond memories you have. You only need to let go of the old house and welcome yourself into the new one. Home is simply where you set your heart at and if you can detach yourself from the old house and see yourself in the new, then you know you have succeeded in your move.
