Do you want to be a professional penetration tester? Then consider getting a certified ethical hacker or CEH training.
Do you want to be a professional penetration tester? Then consider getting a certified ethical hacker or CEH training. The International Council of E-Commerce Consultants (EC-Council) provides the CEH professional certification to an ethical hacker who is employed by organizations or companies that trusts his capability to penetrate computer systems and/or networks.

An ethical hacker employs the same methods used by hackers to find and fix computer security vulnerabilities. In many countries, illegal hacking is a serious crime. Acts that constitute illegal hacking include gaining of unauthorized access to a computer network or system. However, penetration testing, which is done by request of owners of the computer system or network, is legal and does not violate any rules.

Certification for Hacker Training:

The certification provided to an ethical hacker indicates that he is skilled in looking for weaknesses, flaws and vulnerabilities in target computer systems/networks. This also indicates that he is knowledgeable of hacking methods and uses the same tools as hackers. As of June 14, 2011, the CEH exam code is 312-50 with Version 7.1 certification.

The version 7 coursework contains 19 modules consisting of a self-study and an instructor-led training. You can earn a CEH training certification by taking the examination from an accredited training center (ATC) or have done a self-study. If you decide to self-study, you should fill out an application and submit proof of at least 24 months of relevant experience in information security work.

In case you are lacking in information security work experience, you have an option to send a request with details of your educational background and a request for a cases-to-case consideration.

Knowing More About Penetration Test:

A penetration test is a method to evaluate the security of computer networks or systems by means of simulation of an attack from malicious sources. The test process involves an analysis of the computer system or network to determine if there is any potential weakness or vulnerability that may result due to improper or poor system configuration.

The analysis of the system is done from the side of potential attackers and may involve active exploration of security weaknesses and vulnerabilities. The ethical hacker will then present any security issues he found to the system owner. He will also present an assessment of the impact of these security issues as well as proposals for technical solutions. In a nutshell, the penetration test is designed to determine the potential of an attack from malicious sources and the business impact.

Currently, the hacker training certification uses the version V7 examination which has 150 multiple-choice type questions, a limit of four hours and has a passing score of at least 70 percent. Prices for CEH training vary by countries. For example, the examination costs $500 in the U.S.

Meanwhile, there has been a controversy over the use of the term, ethical hacker. The controversy may have arisen from the definition of the term hacker which has become synonymous with illegality or computer crime. However, many companies are not concerned about the association. In fact, there has been a growth in careers that required CEH or other ethical hacking certifications.
