I think it is pretty safe to say that no one ever wants pests to come and invade their home, but in the world of pests, there are few pests that rank very high on the list of things you do NOT want in your house. Among those top ranking pests are cockroaches of any kind, especially German cockroaches. If you find yourself fighting these fierce pests or you simply want to avoid them at all costs in the future, these tips can help.

1 – Know What You Are Fighting

It may help to understand a bit more about these pests before you call in an exterminator in New Jersey. German cockroaches are the most widely distributed urban pest. They are the single most common species in homes and businesses alike throughout the world. Just 5/8 of an inch long in most cases, they are brown and they have fully developed wings. Do not worry, though, as they cannot fly. Nymphs and adults look quite a bit alike, and you can spot them from other species as they have two dark lines running down their backs. They are most likely to be found in your bathroom or in your kitchen because they like to be in warm, moist environments.

2 – Understand the Lifespan

German cockroaches can easily infest a location because they are great breeders. They produce a huge number of eggs and the time period from hatching to sexual maturity is very short. The female carries the egg capsule (which contains up to 48 eggs) the entire time the embryos are developing, so there is a measure of protection other species just do not have. In a single year, more than 10,000 descendants can be produced if the conditions are right. What’s more, though, is that German cockroaches tend to be much smaller than other species, so they have an easy time hiding.

3 – Simple Prevention Methods

It was once thought that only truly dirty places had to deal with cockroach problems. That is just not the case. Any home or commercial kitchen can host a serious cockroach problem, but there are a few things you can do to prevent them. Start by eliminating their food, water, and nesting places. If there are any leaks, repair them immediately. Make certain all of your food is kept in covered containers, and sweep and mop on a regular basis. Get rid of any clutter in the area, and clean out the cupboards and under the appliances on a regular basis.

German cockroaches are more than a serious nuisance. They can be a real health hazard. If you think you might have a problem with these pests, be sure to contact a New Jersey pest control company immediately.
