The latest top news in technology reveals that Pittsburgh’s tech professionals have seen salaries rise as much as 18.1 percent during 2012-2013 over the 2011-2012 period. According to Dice.com salary surveys, the average salary for these professionals has reached approximately $76,207.
Technology Specialty and Business Salaries
Since technology has become such a major part of business, more companies of virtually every type from around the world are competing for the same employees with the same skills, which drives salaries up. For instance, banks need more mobile developers since mobile banking has expanded at such a breathtaking pace. Cloud computing security and management skills are also needed by all types of companies in numerous industries.
As a result of the local and global technology sector boon, other Pittsburgh technology news stories regularly cover the level of competition for students who are graduating from Carnegie Mellon and other higher learning institutions in the region. Companies located outside of the region are actively pursuing new recruits, which also contributes to the rise in local tech salaries.
This rise in salaries is considered to be related to recent expansions of the East End to combine both green living and business environment technology through commercial and residential development partners. Built out of the historic Nabisco Factory space, the center is host to numerous free events designed to connect with neighbors, visitors and businesses.
Google Leases More Property in Pittsburgh
In other Pittsburgh technology news, Google's decision to lease additional space is anticipated to attract many new businesses. In a deal with the Walnut Capital development company, Google will acquire an additional 70,000 square feet of space in the Bakery Square location.
The expansion will result in Google occupying 115,000 of the 250,000 square foot East Liberty development. This expansion accounts for almost half of the $130 million redevelopment project space and is sure to be covered in top news in technology in the near future.
This recent acquisition has also suggested that Google may be hiring around 500 new staff in the very near future. Spokespeople at Walnut Capital see this rapid growth as a positive sign that further development for retail shops is sure to follow in the region.
Since early December, over 150 Google Pittsburgh engineers have settled into approximately 40,000 square feet of office space located across two floors in Bakery Square.
To accommodate the expected future growth, Google also leased two additional floors for a total of over 100,000 square feet. Since Google is actively hiring, this will create a huge boon to Pittsburgh and the company looks forward to being part of the city's growing technology community over the months and years to come.
To celebrate the expansion of Bakery Square, a Groundbreaking Ceremony has been scheduled for Thursday, February 14th starting at 9:30a.m. until 10:30a.m. Light refreshments will be offered in a reception afterward. All residents and visitors are invited and encouraged to meet at a designated tent outside of the Coffee Tree Roasters cafe at 6425 Penn Avenue.
The Walnut Capital and RCG Longview Fund developers, along with Mayor Ravenstahl and community representatives offer attendees free parking for the event in the garage located on the property.
