Techniques To Cope With Guilt Better

Most people tend to be very critical of ourselves, without admitting the good, the funny, the right choice, the success. Guilty has become a problem when we are glad and secure in who we are. Keep this list in your pocket, or on your computer at work.

1. List 10 things you like about yourself. Many are highly strict to themselves, without any acknowledging the funny, the success, the right choice and the good. Guilt becomes an issue when we are happy and secure in who we are. Put the list in your purse, in your pocket or on your computer at work. Then look at it no matter when you feel guilty about what you should or should not have done.
2. Recognize that you can do your best only. There is nothing more. So perhaps you are not a kind of mother who always gets down on the floor to play with her children, but you are the kind of mother who can take her children on outings to the museums and parks. Maybe you are not the kind of person to prepare surprise to your mate with romantic gifts, but you can provide a perpetually open ear, helping hand, and unconditional support.
3. Give a check to an aid agency. This is doing something concrete with your guilt. If you feel guilty about eating some chocolate last night, you can go for a long walk today. If you are guilty that you have spend long time at work, call in sick tomorrow and take the day with your kids to do what they want.
4. Write a note that says "I deserve this" and hang it above your desk. Next time you begin to feel like you are a fake and do not deserve the success you have achieved, see the note and repeat the mantra 15 times.
5. Concentrate on the world around you. There is no use just feeling guilty for all the horrors of the world. You are only one person with a limited reach. When you consult a anthropologist or social scientist and they will give you the same answer that what we should do our job is to do our best, and nothing more.
6. Decide your priorities, and write them down, and post the list on your refrigerator and on your computer at work. When you feel guilty about the things you should have done, check the list. If it is not in the first three priorities, you should not think about it anymore.
