Last words in part-1. Where is the leadership and team building in this illustration of total chaos shall be undertaken in the part-2 of this article. There is a great deal of learning in this illustration for all those who need some navigation to initiate their move towards spear heading to lead their respective teams or work in synchronicity of team work.
Continued… Amidst number of conflicting issues relating to the harmony, safety, decorum and time schedule hover upon any moving barat (marriage procession). The marriage procession is merely organized on one count and that is that it (marriage procession) knows on what date it has to move in order to arrive where? Apart from this bare minimum planning nothing much is neither envisioned nor commissioned for a proper execution. The entirety of a ‘barat’ (marriage procession) is left to the open sky to determine.
With a random move in form of a procession then silently and unnoticeably becomes witness to some strange natural phenomenon that emerges as the causal for this entire learning upon leadership and team building. Someone out of the same ‘barat’ (marriage procession) shall consider the need of the hour and without any application, interview, appointment, placement, training or well defined rules of his conduct… simply jump in to take charge to ward off… all that is inflicting dangers upon that moving marriage procession. This gentleman has no designation for the reason that he has not been procedurally designated for any dispensation. He would start his activity initially to manoeuvre the traffic movement obstructed by the bottleneck created by the overflowing ‘barat’ (marriage procession). He would restrict the bulging procession within some reasonable limits so that the traffic from both ends can start flowing at slow speed. While arranging this corridor for the traffic flow he has to ensure the passage from the head to tail of that procession; wherein he has to cajole the band workers, baratis (participants of the marriage procession) with special reference to intoxicated ones and general baratis. There is no initial support rendered to this gentleman but as he initiates his act… few more… partially rope into give me him some hand but they soon dissolve out of their support and immerse into the joyful band procession.
While this gentleman is managing the traffic flow he is at the same time dispensing with multifarious activities… him… at that moment transforms into a multifaceted personality holding expertise and ability to conduct several acts at any single moment. While managing traffic there originates a special insight for surveillance within him that takes notice of all miscreants attempting for any intrusion into the marriage procession. His sight turns into active radar whereby he soon identifies any illegitimate intruder and pushes them out of the procession while forwarding a stern warning to stay away from that marriage procession. Third activity upon his head is to observe that the ‘barat’ (marriage procession) complies with its time schedule to arrive the bride’s place. In order to manage the time line he impresses upon the band workers to keep moving without any delayed halt en move. He also understands that the gravest challenge for the moving procession comes from the intoxicated ones who insist with all their divine might to stall its move (of the marriage procession) and stick to their dance; making procession stationary. He carefully persuades them to allow the procession to move… although that his persuasion for those who are not into their wise state is a very tough part… at times these erratic elements challenge his authority and extend him with harsh words. He then displays his ‘self’ as the epitome of tolerance and continues with his endeavour for which there are no remuneration of any kind… no appreciations in store… no recognition in place… yet he wisely discerns between all that he should shun to continue and dispense an obligation initiated suo-moto…
There are very few in the same procession that arise out of his selfless demonstration in order to join him and serve… unconcerned of any he continues with his moves… undeterred… He does not engage in any kind of gossip… he does not care for display of his fashion… he does not care for anyone else’s wearing… he is not there to count his interest of joy to dance… he does not allow any thought that questions the validity of his acts in any sense of legitimacy or remuneration. At times when he finds his powers falling short to dispense some heavy task… he immediately invokes the participation of others to fall in and assist to handle that arduous assignment. He is absolutely immersed into that act where there are no mentions to it at any later times to come.
The furtherance to the sheer beauty of such a gentleman comes into place when the ‘barat’ (marriage procession) arrives the bride’s place. As soon the procession assembles outside the gates of the brides place… as general practice the major portion of it finds its access into the marriage hall while leaving very few of the closest family members outside in order to conduct some initial ritual entailing a ritualistic welcome of the groom’s side. The moment this all (welcome ritual) … at the gates of bride’s place starts the gentleman who till that moment was the self appointed captain of the totally unplanned ship consisting varied elements… diminishes. Then it is not that easy to trace his antecedents for a reason that he is done with the call of his insight and now it is time for him to relieve, dine and go back to turn back again with the same sense of responsibility in some other ‘barat’ (marriage procession) where he shall be duly invited to participate.
None to recognize; yet we all witness the most unfathomable demonstration of someone who is able to manage ‘self’ amidst all diversity and incoherence to allow one perform with ease… leading amidst those who do not recognize and accept his status of a leader… he excels truly to the situation affront… There could be enough to write more upon such leadership but that all is left for the readers to comprehend and learn from his act that is inspiring to most in corporate leadership.
