It always happens at the most inopportune time. You are in a rush, and already late for an appointment, you leave your keys on the passenger seat of the car, grab the baby out of her car seat, lock the door... and BINGO! You forgot the keys in the car and you are locked out.

It always happens at the most inopportune time. You are in a rush, and already late for an appointment, you leave your keys on the passenger seat of the car, grab the baby out of her car seat, lock the door... and BINGO! You forgot the keys in the car and you are locked out.
Now what?
Most cars now have a mechanism that doesn’t allow you to lock your driver side door without your key. But what if you leaned across the passenger side and locked the car. Or you were lifting something out of the trunk, dropped the keys and slammed the trunk with your elbow?
Hopefully, you remembered your cell phone in your back pocket or purse, and you have your local locksmith on speed dial. Locksmiths have the tools and expertise to open your door in seconds with little or no damage to the paint.
Calling the police is another option. But do you really want to deal with all the questions, and don't you think the police have better things to do than helping out careless citizens? Locksmiths see this all the time, and they will effortlessly help you back on the road without any questions. They've seen it all.
You could certainly carry an extra key, but most likely the extra key is safe at home, or in the purse that you also left in the car. Trying to hide a key on the outside of your car is risky because it could be found, and then your car could be stolen.
There are a few things you can do to prevent locking your keys in your car - keep this for future reference.
- If your car has a "clicker" type lock and someone else has another "clicker" you can call them and have them "click" into a phone while you hold your phone near the locking mechanism of your door.
- Get in the habit of never locking your car from the inside.
- Make sure the valet button in your glove box is disabled. This will allow you to use the button in your car to open the trunk. Of course this only works if you haven't already locked the car.
- Take the time - RIGHT NOW - to put your local locksmith Miami 24 hour phone number in your cell phone under "locksmith" so you can find it whenever you are in a bind.
