Take That are a five-piece pop group comprising Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams. Gary Barlow is Take That’s front-man and primary songwriter. Formed in Manchester in 1990, Take That achieved major success, selling more than 25 million records between 1991–96 before disbanding in 1996. Dance-oriented pop tunes and soulful ballads of Take That dominated the UK charts in the first half of the 1990s, spawning two of the best selling albums of the decade with Everything Changes and Greatest Hits. Take That reformed in 2005 without Robbie Williams and achieved new success as a four-piece scoring a string of chart hits whilst taking the number of records sold to over 40 million worldwide. Robbie Williams’ return to Take That was confirmed on 15 July 2010. Take That have had 22 top forty singles in the UK alone, 11 of which have reached #1 as well as having five number 1 albums.
Take That released their debut album Take That & Party on 17 August 1992. Take That & Party was certified as 2x Platinum in the UK, reached #2 in the UK album chart and stayed in the chart for 19 weeks. Take That released their second album Everything Changes on 11 October 1993. Everything Changes reached number one in the UK Album Chart, was the 3rd best selling album of 1993 in the UK and has been certified as 4x Platinum in the UK. Take That released their third studio album Nobody Else on 5 May 1995; it reached number one in the UK, German, Dutch and Swiss charts. Take That went on the Nobody Else Tour in support of the album, playing 31 dates across countries such as the UK, Australia, Thailand, Singapore and Japan.
Robbie Williams was unhappy with his musical ideas not being taken seriously by lead singer Gary Barlow and Nigel Martin-Smith. Robbie Williams’ desires to explore more hip hop and the rap genre conflicted with the Take That’s usual ballads. Gary Barlow and Jason Orange confronted Robbie Williams about his attitude and stated they wanted to do the US leg of Nobody Else Tour without him. Robbie Williams agreed to quit take That and left; it would be the last time for twelve years that they were all together. Take That formally announced on 13 February 1996 that they were disbanding.
Take That’s fourth & comeback album, Beautiful World was released on 24 November 2006, which entered the UK album chart at #1 and has been certified as 8x Platinum in the UK. Take That released their fifth studio album The Circus on 28 November 2008; it reached the top of the UK album charts on 7 December 2008, remained there for 5 weeks and has been certified double platinum in Europe (including the UK and Ireland).
Robbie Williams announced his return to Take That on 15 July 2010. Take That released their sixth studio album Progress on 15 November 2010. Progress is the first album of Take That to feature Robbie Williams since their reformation in 2005. The lead single from Progress, ‘The Flood’, was released on 7 November 2010 as a digital download, and on 8 November as a physical copy. On the first day of release Progress became the fastest selling album of the century, with 235,000 copies sold in just one day. Progress reached number 1 in the UK and Ireland, selling around 520,000 copies in its first week, becoming the second fastest-selling album in history.
Take That have announced Progress Live 2011, for the support of sixth studio album, Progress. Take That are set to play at major UK arenas with a series of concerts at City of Manchester Stadium and London’s Wembley Stadium. Take That’s Progress Live 2011 will see original five-piece line-up including Robbie Williams perform live after 15 years in UK. Promoters SJM Concerts have ensured a maximum number of venues available for comeback tour of Robbie Williams with Take That. Take That will then perform at important venues across Europe. Take That’s Progress Live 2011 tour is on sale now for Thatters. Take That Tickets for new dates of Progress Live 2011 are on sale from 10 December 2010.
