A Different Way of Discovering Spain
Spain is unique; one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Once you get to Spain, you will be charmed by its lively spirit, its tradition, its culture, and the amazing places that you can visit. A very special way of discovering Spain is by following the famous routes that are full of history, spirituality, and adventure. The Silver Route is one of them. The Silver Route is the route followed by the Romans in their attempt to get to the north of the country.
The Silver Route (Via de la Plata) is actually the cornerstone on which, starting from the 1st century until the 19th century, Spaniards built roads and paths. It is also the route used by farmers in order to move livestock from one place to another. The Route is of enormous historical and cultural importance. The Romans built kilometers of streets (calzadas) here, which permitted the civilization to penetrate all along the route. The bridges, the aqueducts, and the fortresses led to the appearance of cities, temples, even circuses.
The Cities Along the Route
The Silver Route starts in Seville. From Seville, tourists have to pass through the ruins of Italca, then to Zafra, Almendrajelo, and Merrida (also known as the Hispanic Rome). The list of the cities along the Silver Route is very long: Gijon, Zamora, Trujillo, Carmona, Oviedo, Salamanca, Caceres, Seville, Leon, Bejar, Merida, Astorga, Hervas, Zafra, Benavente, Plasencia, and Santiponce. They are all worth visiting for the historical monuments of great architectural and cultural importance. Cathedrals, museums, squares, and palaces are sightseeing attractions that please the eye and the soul of tourists.
A Natural Delight
The Silver Route unites the North and the South of the country. It passes through mountains, forests, valleys, and rivers, being a natural delight for the eye. The landscapes are breathtaking, and in addition to the historical monuments, tourists have the opportunity to see unique natural monuments.
Accommodations
The decision of how many days in which to complete the route depends on each tourist. The easiest accommodation type, the most comfortable one, is renting villas. You will find villas in each city along the route, and their biggest advantage is that they are very rustic. Also, being situated in picturesque places offers them a unique charm that delights the tourists. Palacio de Miravalles, Casa Candela, Casa Lledias, and La Capilla de Muros are the most high-rated choices by tourists.
