Our heartbeats are synchronized by electric impulses. As a result of certain reasons, these impulses don't work as they are supposed to. This may increase the risk for heart beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly. The number of people, every year, which are diagnosed with this condition of heart arrhythmia, comes up to a staggering 850,000. Although, the situation may appear intimidating to you, in most cases, it doesn't require just about any treatment. Meaning, the situation is frequently harmless. Nevertheless, for some people (particularly those with a weak heart), it may give rise to severe consequences. The problem creates a feeling which most people label fluttering in chest or racing of heart.
Arrhythmia Symptoms
In layman's term, cardiac arrhythmia is nothing but abnormal or strange heartbeat. In this problem the heart beats in a very peculiar manner in which is nowhere near the normal beating pattern. This strange heart beating pattern can manifest in the form of slow or fast heart rhythm. Apart from, rapid or irregular heartbeat, absence of a heartbeat is also one of the arrhythmia symptoms. However, abnormal heart rhythm alone isn't only symptom of arrhythmia. Other signs or symptoms associated with serious arrhythmia are discussed below.
•Chest Pain: Intermittent episodes of irregular heartbeat may also trigger pain in the chest wall. The seriousness of chest pain will be different from person to person but it is typically mild to moderate chest discomfort.
•Dizziness: Dizziness or feeling of vertigo has also been associated with arrhythmia symptoms. Vertigo (the feeling of things revolving around you) causes loss of balance, rendering it impossible to walk or stand steadily. This feeling of lightheadedness may be combined with extreme tiredness (fatigue).
•Sweating: Rapid heartbeats caused by arrhythmia also can cause excessive sweating. Of those with long term arrhythmia are often heard complaining about night sweats.
•Fainting: A person may lose consciousness, especially, when arrhythmia increases the heart rate. A racy heart due to arrhythmia can make a person vunerable to fainting.
•Shortness of Breath: Irregular heart beats associated with breathing problems is an indication that something is wrong with all the lungs.
•Swollen Feet: Abnormal heartbeat followed by swelling in the lower leg such as ankles and feet is an indication of edema (fluid buildup), a disorder that is commonly associated with congestive heart failure.
Typically, arrhythmia signs are mild and occur occasionally in healthy individuals. Commonly, irregular heartbeat is a harmless problem and doesn't require any treatment. However, frequent episodes of arrhythmia or heart palpitations occurring during the day are indeed bothersome and certainly require critical medical attention.
