Costa Brava is the name of the northeastern Mediterranean coast of Spain, which extends from the town of Blanes in the south to the French border in the north.This region is characterized by a high rocky coast, which descends steeply to the sea. In the fifties of the last century, Costa Brava had no tourist infrastructure.This region has received the name Costa Brava (wild coast) due to steep rocks and trees that are almost always shaken by the restless wind.

However, this coast is not as wild and inaccessible as the name says. Nature in this area, which is characterized by colorful rocks and sandy beaches, is often the victim of mass tourism development.Today, coast of Costa Brava is packed with hotels and resorts. Despite the huge hotel complexes, tourists can still discover the forgotten region, which has preserved its virgin beauty.

There are many romantic fishing villages in the region of Costa Brava located between the rocks. The most famous destination is Lloret de Mar. It is a typical summer resort, where visitors come in waves each year. In the peak of the season it is hard to find a place on the beach. While walking by the shore, you will have the impression that you are on the famous Copacabana beach. Today, tourism is the main industry in this northern Spanish region.

Homeland of Salvador Dali

If you visit Costa Brava, make sure to see all the exciting places such as cap de Creus or Figures. Cap de Creus is a peninsula with steep landscape. This is also a place where mountains and sea meet. Above all, this peninsula represents the great conflict, reminiscent of the unusual and romantic haven at the same time. Cap de Creus is well known among sailors due to numerous dangerous cliffs nearby.On the other hand, art lovers know this area thanks to Salvador Dali.

This great master of surrealism lived and created in the northern area of Costa Brava. Dali is one of the most famous painters of the twentieth century.He lived in a nearby village near Cadaques until his death. He died in 1989. Salvador Dali showed Creus in many of his art works.Dali’s Museum in Figueres is considered as one of the most visited museums in Spain along with the Prado Museum in Madrid.Along with the Costa del Sol area in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, Costa Brava is one of the favorite tourist destinations in Spain.
