Spring makes a great time to be in the sunny, laid-back city of West Palm Beach: Palm trees are swaying in the gentle Florida breeze, shoppers are out in full force at popular venues like CityPlace and Antique Row, and Florida’s largest waterfront music and art festival, SunFest, is again set to light up the city’s vibrant downtown. Founded in 1982, the annual event will run April 27 through May 1 and is expected to draw more than 270,000 visitors this year.
SunFest will take place in downtown West Palm Beach along Florida’s Intracoastal Waterway, extending along Flagler Drive from Banyan Boulevard to Lakeview Avenue. If you’re a music lover, you’ll feel right at home as more than 40 national, regional and local bands will perform on three stages along the waterfront. What’s more, there will be something for every musical taste with such headliners as Jason Mraz, Earth, Wind & Fire, Styx, Cee Lo Green and Mike Posner scheduled to grace the main stage. On Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, art buffs will be able to see the work of more than 150 national artists on display, from paintings and jewelry to photography and pottery, at the Juried Fine Art & Craft Show.
Other festivities worth squeezing in some time for over the weekend: Wine tastings at the Wine Garden in Trinity Park; the Robert Mondavi Discover Wine Tour, which includes several wine seminars; and Captain Morgan’s Floating Oasis, a trio of floating barges boasting specially-made drinks.
Bringing the little ones along? Don’t miss Youth Park, open Friday through Sunday, where loads of interactive games and activities are sure to keep the kids entertained for hours on end. Those 5 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Top off your visit to West Palm Beach with the SunFest Fireworks Show, which will light up the sky on Sunday night. One of the largest fireworks displays of its kind on the East Coast, the show is expected close out SunFest’s jam-packed schedule of activities with a memorable bang.
If you’re looking for West Palm Beach hotels that will keep you close to all the action, we recommend the following properties:
