If you are planning to visit India in the summer for your honeymoon, it advised to opt for a hill station. Due to the harsh, tropical Indian summer temperatures in lower regions, hill stations were developed by British officials as summer retreats. Small towns were built with beautiful cottages, churches and administrative buildings in the colonial style, to add a distinctive look to the Indian hills. Many honeymoon packages include accommodation in these British cottages, which are often located in quiet, peaceful areas---ideal for a couple on their honeymoon.
1.Mahabaleshwar
Mahabaleshwar is a picturesque hill station located in the Western Ghats and cradled in the Sahyadri ranges of western India. At an altitude of 1,372 meters (about 4,500 feet), Mahabaleshwar is known as the highest hill station in western India. Known as the Queen of Maharashtra's hill station, it is a very popular honeymoon spot. This hill station features many religious and historical spots, as well as the romantic Lingmala and Chinaman's waterfalls. Mahabaleshwar draws big tourist crowds in the summer.
2.Kodaikanal
If you are looking for a quiet honeymoon spot, Kodaikanal might be the place for you. This hilly retreat was established by American missionaries around 1845 at an altitude of 2,195 meters (around 7,200 feet). Kodaikanal is situated on the southern ridge of the Palani hills in Tamil Nadu and has earned the nickname of Princess of the Hill Stations. Kodaikanal is renowned for its international educational institutions. Berijam Lake is situated in this area.
3.Kullu Valley
Kullu and Manali are famous summer retreat destinations, very popular amongst honeymooners. The Kullu Valey stretches over an area of around 50 miles in the Himalayas. The valley is famous for its colorful, hand-woven shawls and kullu caps. Snow-capped mountains, silent valleys, fruit orchards and meadows of wild flowers are some of the major attractions in these areas. Paragliding, river rafting, rock climbing, skiing, trekking, kayaking and mountain biking are some activities available in the area.
4.Shimla
Honeymooners looking for a bit of history should visit Shimla, former summer capital of British India. Shimla overlooks terraced hillsides and is situated amongst dense forests of oak and pine, fur and rhododendron.
