Scotland’s capital city is one of the finest places of the world for the educational purposes. There are many institutions in Edinburgh, which provide world-class education to the students. From all over the world a remarkable number of the students come to this city to achieve the educational skills in order to have promising futures. In Edinburgh most of them stay in university accommodations in their first year. After the completion of their first year mostly students rent flats/apartments in areas that are closer to universities and colleges. As compared to the university hostels they can get more space and privacy in the flats and apartments.
There are some key factors, which students must consider before getting a place.
Things you must consider when choosing a flat/house mate:
Before having a friend as room/flat mate you must always look at other aspects besides seeing their fun personality.
One thing that students must keep in minds the particular friend’s attitude towards housework. You need a responsible person who helps with the house chores and makes sure that the property is protected and safe at all times. A roommate’s bad habits must also be kept in view by the students. There might be a few things, which completely annoy you, and behavior, which you just cannot stand e.g., laziness, smoking, poor hygiene, a night owl or an early bird. Another important thing, which a student should also consider if the eligible flat/house mate has common, interests with you, like, cinema, music etc.
The contract of the rental property run for almost a year so it is important to make sure that you can live with these persons. Most of the times it is easier to tell a friend that you cannot live with them rather than losing a friend on personality and lifestyle clashes.
Deciding who should live with you:
It is very popular among the students to live with the friends. Many of them prefer to live with their friends as compared to live alone. Sharing an accommodation with the friends is a sensible decision as it allows sharing costs and hence is cheaper. In Edinburgh mostly a group of friends rent out a place together. By doing this they can share the amount of rent and utilities. That would not be wrong if we say that it is an idea of fun also. Coming back to an empty house and living alone can be depressing.
If you have made up your mind as to renting a place with friends then the next important step is to consider, which friends? There are different things should take in consideration like their personalities, likes and dislikes, lifestyle etc to see if that particular friend will make a nice house/flat mate for you. This is an important decision that a students must take this decision wisely as it will either result in creating or alleviating tensions in future. You have to be very sensible in this matter If you don’t make a sensible choice now, this will affect your studies later and hence your future.
