As a child, everyone has this rather deeply imprinted memory of some show on the television or some real-life show at a local funfair where a weird looking man makes a couple of people from the audience join him on the stage and follow his orders in doing funny actions. This act intrigues every child and so were we intrigued by it once and got to know from our parents that it was a concept called hypnotism.

So when one tells you about hypnotism your first instinct is to recall a man with a pocket watch on a string or a pendant on a chain dangling it in front of the eyes of the target subject and hypnotizing them into a mysterious world of an unknown power that makes them do things they would not do normally. Although it is not less than a cliché in today’s world since science has had a major influence on people’s mind leading them towards radical thinking that stops them from believing such unnatural concepts.
Believe it or not hypnotism does exist and it is true that the hypnotist can control the mind of the subject being hypnotized and make them do a variety of previously undone things. In fact, hypnotism is a part of our daily life. Have you ever felt that you cannot say a “no” to someone just because they are too charming and you get convinced by them easily? Have you ever bought something from a sales person and later realized that you dint really have a reasonable use for that product but you have bought it anyways? I am sure these things have happened to you and these are people who have knowingly or unknowingly been using covert hypnosis on you. Covert hypnosis is a process of gaining control over another person’s mind by means of a tactful conversation that may contain the right kind of words to embark your influence on their minds with ease. The hypnotist or the one being hypnotized may not be aware of all this being a part of hypnosis.
Street hypnosis is another theory under this category where the hypnotist somehow convinces the subject to do things that are beyond rational thinking or critical analyses. The only thing that sets street hypnosis apart from covert hypnosis is the fact that street hypnosis characterizes an instant hypnotic session that comprises of a few quick steps unlike in covert hypnosis where a lot of listening, rapport building, creating trance states, suggestibility building and gradually bringing about a permanent change in the thought process of the individual for his own betterment is involved. Street hypnosis, on the other hand, can be just practiced on an individual to check your own hypnotic strengths by making the subject do things that are very simple but something normally would not be accepted by his critical mind. It is not a therapy session unlike how covert hypnosis is used on people to get them rid of their bad habits or inculcates in them the much required self-confidence. Street hypnosis generally involves steps like 1.) Attention, 2.) Induction, 3.) Deepening, 4.) Suggestions 5.) Awakening.
