If you want to have a tattoo that will be a clear representation of your personality and something you can live with for… well, practically forever, go for a custom design. Sure, you can have it removed whenever you want it, but why go through all the expense and, not to mention, double, triple the pain when you could have one that will satisfy you for the rest of your life?
Here are a few things to remember in order to steer clear of choosing a tattoo design that would make you want to torture yourself wanting it removed or changed.
1. Be clear as to the type of tattoo you want.
A personality is anything BUT random and, since you want your tattoo to reflect yours, do NOT choose a tattoo design randomly. There are a range of designs categorized into themes. Choose the one that appeals to you the most – tribal marks, foreign characters, animal figures, famous people, and so on – and start from there.
Afterwards, you can decide on the size, the colour scheme, and which part of your body it would be inked on to. The most important consideration is whether the tattoo would be a perfect fit for you. Will you be happy with it? Does it go with your personality traits? This takes the most time for anybody looking to get a tattoo. Those who already have some have it even worse, because they have to make sure their additional tats would complement their older ones.
2. Widen your options.
There is a vast array of tattoo designs available, so do not limit yourself to those offered by a couple of designers, or several websites that offer design options. Expand your ‘design horizons’. Check out websites hosting design contests; you are bound to find innovative ink designs from them. Or, better yet, you could host your own. In that way, you can be sure that your personal preferences would be the primary consideration in those designs.
3. Do not fall for misleading price tags.
Many people fall for the “FREE” custom tattoo designs they find on the Internet. Don’t. Remember that someone else might be looking at the very same design, thinking the very same thing and, the next thing you know, you have a tattoo that is pretty much used by a hundred others. There goes your “unique” tattoo design.
4. Look before you get inked.
Look before you leap; haste makes waste. A tattoo is permanent, so it takes a lot of thought and consideration before you make the leap and choose one particular design. It will save you a lot of money, a lot of stress from ruing the day you chose that one design, and the pain of having it erased and replaced.
Keep these four tips in mind and you will have a tattoo design that is all your own, reflect who you truly are, and with not an ounce of regret.
