Aging causes time to seemingly move faster each and every day. I cannot believe that another year is coming to an end. Up North, the winter is quite an exhilarating time of year but it is also a bit of a downer. We must wave goodbye to the warm weather and some of our favorite spring and summer activities, like golfing. No matter how much I prepare myself for it, the end of golfing season is always a low blow. It might even be more emotional than watching your oldest child leave for college!

While taking your clubs out of the trunk for the last time for the season, you probably think of nothing but the feet of snow that will end up covering this wonderful green in the coming weeks. And then you realize not only do you have to say goodbye to golfing, but also to some of your favorite smoking spots on the course.
As a way to say hello to the coming winter, and to bid adieu to another wonderful summer, here is a list of my MVP items from the past few months of golf.
5. My Xicar Executive lighter that never left my bag. Trusty, reliable, and inexpensive—less than $20. Totally worth it when you consider even on the windiest days it keeps a “solid” strong flame!
4. The dual-use Div Pro tool that repairs stubborn ball marks and holds your cigar while you are busy swinging those clubs. Remember these for holiday time—they make great gifts and stocking-stuffers!
3. The Perdomo Reserve cigar. There was not a single day that I didn’t have a few of these guys hanging out in my pocket to enjoy on the green. For $4 per stogie, they are a steal!
2. The cigar minder clip. No joke, this invention needs to go down in history as one of the best in history. Think of how many times you tried to find a good place to rest your cigar so you could putt. We usually resort to some careless option, no doubt regretting it soon after. This guy can hold your cigar firmly, and it comes with a clamp that can clip onto almost anything you could possibly think of!
1. And of course the winner, the mulligan. Ever trustworthy; without you, my friend, I would be a broken man. My score and my blood pressure would be sky-high! I will definitely see you come next golf season…
It’s nearly time to pull out that snow blower from underneath all the junk I piled on top of it during the spring and summer months. Hurray for love-hate relationships. But then I remember the love-love relationship I have with cigars, and all the wonderful stogies I have stowed away for the coming winter months. If there is one thing that can put a smile on my face in the middle of winter, it’s a nice cigar.
And people say that winter is ALL bad! Happy smoking!
