By Trekkie-greeting and spirit of a "Make it so number one!" that we started in the currently ongoing beta of Star Trek Online.

Our Federation Commander Stefan White tells of his experiences in the MMO from developer Cryptic.
With 41 years I belonged to the generation that Spock, Kirk and pill was allowed to do from the beginning - to be Captain Picard, Lt. Worf, Diana Troy and company of my favorites were to be replaced by Quark, Sisko, Kira Nerys and Jadzia Dax - Star Trek runs through my entire TV times now past. The more I was curious how much Trekkie-Feeling offer probably the MMO by Cryptic would. Just over a week I could start a fresh beta keys sent through itself.
"Oops, what you have because beamed into this corner?" (Kirk to McCoy in "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock")
The character creation gives me a lot of fun, there are dozens of sliders to customize my character, I want that! - Because I'm a fan of Jadzia Dax, it should of course be a Trill, which I play. - This figure I levele up to level 8 - and feel out there and torn. Yes, pulls the science-fiction setting me right away under the ban, especially as the space-sections provide a great visual for me Freelancer-esteem. The high degree of instantiation within the game world is certainly not to everybody's taste, it bothers me not very far, although the space environment already suffers. A sense to explore the endless universe, stands not occur when launching a new quest for each load beam, the next instance.
When the ground missions, I feel a strange way to the first steps in Star Wars Galaxies, remembers it comes animations and battle progressions that everything seems still quite incomplete. The orders to clean once a station of opponents to perform four times Trikorder simple scans of rock the first time are quite nice - but wear out quickly, here it is still lacking in depth and tension.
Significantly better the space battles - those who make a lot of fun so far. If you get used to only look at the tactical elements in the game, really is good Commander-feeling on - at the right moment his ship at the correct angle align the target, so that the phaser banks can fire a full broadside, "enemy shields down" reports the on-board computer immediately adjust the course so far, so can use the photon torpedoes - which ensures a good dose of fun.
The idea to provide officers with a bridge for an individual spec like me good. The special skills of the team have a positive impact in the space battles, which are designed quite tactical. Far less I like the many, many bugs, run through the beta version. Quests that can be terminated not because spawn are only four instead of five Klingon troops, tough and monotonous quests on planets surfaces, to date, a nasty Balancing ... There are many things that should be enhanced. -
Sure, a beta is not the finished game, which was at liberty, but in view of the very early release date, one wonders even whether the timing or anything hinhaut. And yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel, for Cryptic potters strong at the beta version and provides patch supplies.
"Success and happiness are on the side of fools" (Kirk in "Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home")
On 21 January, there was a thick patch update, the Star Trek Online brings back a proper step forward. Quests can be completed now problem-free, the user interface appears in the new, does improved garment - yes it is what, in the universe of the starship Enterprise, this is the way with its 400-strong crew five years to explore other galaxies, new life and new civilizations. Very nice that the load times are noticeably shorter and changing area were spiced up with pretty graphics. The star map shows clear signs of improvement. And who will provide a system scan, is now getting a clear direction to the nearest reference anomaly - by the previous, vague message, "there are four anomalies in the system", but without any indication where.
But not everything runs smoothly in the Star Trek universe, and there is still much to do for Cryptic until the release, and certainly beyond. The central question that arises for me is, "How the finished product will be when it appears in early February and we want to pay monthly fees?" - I am currently of the opinion that you should certainly give this product a chance - but the courage to set times aside from the usual fantasy MMO pabulum a cult sci-fi universe, deserve respect. And despite all the flaws that the game has still, I succumb to the charm against Klingons loszuziehen, my USS Newark to improve still further increase with phaser banks and photon torpedoes opposing Bird of Prey apart, listening to the typical sound of my Trikorders when performing a scan - yes, I like this space adventure and I'm very curious to see how it is will develop, because the potential for a good game is definitely there.
