Job loss, accident, spouse left them, illness or other - not one of them planned for their life to turn out this way, but it did and they are working through it and turning their situation around with caring and assistance of St Vincent de Paul Society – Phoenix.

Job loss, accident, spouse left them, illness or other - not one of them planned for their life to turn out this way, but it did and they are working through it and turning their situation around with caring and assistance of St Vincent de Paul Society – Phoenix.
'Trust me when I tell you, plans go awry. Money goes away. It could happen, and it could happen to you.' Ross, one beneficiary of St. Vincent de Paul’s assistance said.
Helping the homeless, providing health and dental care to the uninsured, job training, or eviction prevention to working families or feeding the hungry is St. Vincent de Paul – Phoenix’s mission.
To those who go to one of the five charitable dining rooms, St. Vincent de Paul offers uplifting stories with their warm meals and all dining room locations offer on-site referrals for additional assistance such as employment-related services, transportation, utilities assistance and housing. They even offer families-only dining room also offers educational programs for children and parents.
'I go to St. Vincent de Paul dining hall. They serve you good balanced meals and cold drinks.' Christina, a charity dining room guest said. 'They always have guest speakers that inspire a lot of people because they used to be homeless, too and they never gave up. Their stories are real. I know I'm not going to ever give up because I've got a real story.'
St. Vincent de Paul’s Helping the Working Poor Program assists about 200 families per year work with a case manager and a mentor to create a family budget and set spending priorities. It also includes job training and job readiness assistance. And participants can get assistance with childcare, transportation, and other costs related to seeking better employment. Though families are a large portion helped about 50 individuals are also helped by the program each year.
Lucille, another recipient of St. Vincent de Paul services said, 'I would say St. Vincent de Paul has had a huge impact on my life, I’m working full time. If it wasn’t for them, I could be on the streets right now; my family could be torn apart.'
'It's no easy feat to start from nothing and start over in life. They were my support system. I knew that they were there. I'd get my call every week. I'm back in my old industry. We're in a better place today. It is a gradual climb but I have never stopped.' Lisa, who said she was treated with love and compassion at St. Vincent de Paul who helped to feed her and pay her rent. 'I would have never seen humanity as I do today because I've been there on both sides. I still carry pain, I still carry fear but I still have a lot of hope.'
