The path to enlightenment imparts sage insights regarding one’s true self by quieting all personal delusions and false thoughts. This path brings about the awakening of a free soul, a soul which is liberated from all mundane, worldly shackles and is at peace and in perfect communion with the inner self. No matter how hard one attempts to put it into words, the meaning of enlightenment is ultimately incomprehensible. Enlightenment awakening is not an experience that can be evoked upon command, but rather an experience that must be lived first-hand, individually.
Nowadays, enlightenment is a global concept. There exist numerous spiritual gurus, as well as numerous books containing a myriad of articles on the topic. Furthermore, almost all of the world’s religions preach a similar concept of spiritual enlightenment. It is imperative to realize that all of these religions are a different path toward the same destination.
Among the various constituents of enlightenment articles, one common theme that can be found in nearly all is the concept of Advaita, or non-dualism. In other words, the self is the ultimate and the rest of the world is nothing more than a mere illusion. So, stop weighing your actions based upon the outcome! Meditation enjoys great importance in the journey to spiritual enlightenment. The practice brings serenity to one’s being. Importantly, meditation gives the one who meditates the key to master his or her mind and the power not to become a slave of his or her instincts. An individual’s interpersonal relationships improve when he or she begins to touch upon life’s spiritual realms. Meditation can also improve a person’s mental and physical wellbeing. Remember that one need not take time apart from work for meditation, for being aware at the moment in whatever one is doing is a meditation in itself.
Being spiritual doesn’t mean that one must forsake the world or worldly relationships and pleasures. Embracing spirituality is much more than this. Enlightenment awakening teaches one the art of coping with the world while at the same time, detaching oneself from it. Attachment brings misery; awareness brings peace of mind. The most crucial and practical step that one can take in enlightening oneself is to “be at the moment.” We waste the majority of the valuable moments of our lives by worrying about the future and regretting the past. We must remember that life is “here and now.” Life has to be lived to its fullest at each passing moment in order to attain its actual bliss. Enlightenment is not something which can be gained by exterior efforts. Rather, true enlightenment is within us.
