Sony Ericsson Xperia X-1 is a gaming cell phone comes bundled with a gaming mini console. The features included in Spice X-1 phone is a 2.4 inch display, Memory card slot (up to 2GB), Pre-loaded games and a Gaming controller peripheral.

It is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera, Yamaha-amplified 3D surround sound, Integrated FM radio and Sony Ericsson Xperia X-1 also offers Bluetooth connectivity.

With an impressive image of the phone, the Xperia X1 represents the combination of both corporate and multimedia features available in the consumer market. It’s an all metal handset finished in brushed aluminium with the hint of chrome finish. The back panel is all metallic and with a nice built quality with a minor bulge created due to fitting issues. A slight gap is noticed but it is there as a retention mechanism and is not there due to the battery. This is very unusual for a high end cell phone. The QWERTY keypad is really slick when it slides out and exudes positive feedback — excellent design. The keys are little too cramped up and they are quite edged out, best suitable for the use of the fingernails only.

The optical key is barely usable with touch, although it is designed for the regular button pressed use. The calling keys are well poised out and are very usable. The QWERTY keypad is quite impressive due the well spaced placing of the keys on the keypad. Somehow while using the keys on the keypad, it tends to give an impression where it feels hard to press them and type a message The screen is a crisp display and is with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, although it still displays only 65,000 colours; somewhat of a shortcoming in its armour and this limits the experience when playing back videos. The excellent resolution means that fonts are rendered well and look crisp — great for reading mails. A soft light indicator is placed over the front side of the phone to provide notification for any missed call, received message, mail etc.

The keys are used to change the volume levels and power button is place on the body which does provide a soft feedback and ease with usability. The Xperia has a good camera that while not on par with the best, offers decent quality. Signal quality is good and the Xperia X1 scores well in zone 1 while doing a fair job in zone 2. The earpiece volume and hands free unit are above par. The bundled earphones are the Sony earplugs that passively isolate noise and the X1 is a good music phone. It’s got all the features, it’s got the build quality, and it’s got a full keypad to boot. A phone that’s equally suited to corporate users as well as multimedia junkies, although this split personality is exactly what makes it fail short of being a truly spectacular multimedia phone. However, usability isn’t the best around and neither is the call quality. Small quirks for a mighty device we say.
