Although the material used for making a wedding ring has changed, the sentiment involved in it still remains the same.
A wedding ring is a wedding couple’s most cherished possession. It is the only symbol of the couple’s love and commitment and the vow they took to stay with each other as long as they live. It is the only artificial substance that holds the bonding between the couple all through their marital life. It is believed to connect the two hearts. A person never separates the ring from his or her body. During a wedding ritual, the bride and the bridegroom exchanges rings. It is like gifting a part of their heart to each other. The wedding ring is worn on the 4th finger of the left hand. The fourth finger is believed to have a vein which runs straight to the heart.

The exchange of bridal rings is not a very old ritual. It was introduced during the World War II. Before that the man used to offer his wife a ring, acceptance of which made the woman the man’s property. This ring ritual is however, a very old practice. It was introduced by the Egyptian civilization, thousands of years ago. With the advancement of time, the wedding ring has changed; previously wedding rings were made of leaf or hay. Then came the time of metals. People used to make rings from any metal. Because of the lack of proper equipments, the makers failed to give the ring proper shape or size. Nowadays, only two metals are used to make wedding rings, platinum and gold. Although both are very hard and strong metal, suitable equipments are used to cut them for making proper designs.

Present day jewelers have proved to be very successful in making eye-catching, spectacular wedding rings. Even though platinum is one of the hardest metal, jewelers use proper technique to cut it, give it proper shape and produce some spectacular designed rings. Platinum is used for making ring, because of its strength and its everlasting metallic white luster. Then comes gold, pure gold is not much of a hardy metal. Other metals are mixed with it to make it hard. Metals are also used to change the color of gold. Pure gold is yellow in color. Metals are often mixed to give it some artificial colors, like white gold or rose gold.

Wedding rings are quite plenty nowadays. A person can purchase rings from departmental stores or any online store. It is available in lots of variety. Variety in the sense, the design, cost, stones and metal used etc. It depends solely on the person, what ring he or she will choose for the partner. A person should buy keeping a lot of things in mind. The partner’s choice, quality of the ring, its cost etc. If a person is in a job, where he or she has to use the hands a lot, then a designer, stone-studded ring is not preferable. It will not be comfortable for that person.

Whatever wedding ring a person purchases, there are several things that should be kept in mind. Using an uncomfortable wedding ring throughout life time is not good. Since, it is the single chance of a lifetime, enough importance should be given while purchasing a wedding ring.
