What do you understand by the terminology absolute value? The absolute value of a real number p is denoted by p or notion is p and is defined as the unsigned portion of x. One thing to note about absolute value is that bars are not parentheses and in many cases don't consider as parentheses. Whenever, you take an absolute value of a number, you finish it with either a positive number or a zero. Two methods are used to define absolute value. One is geometric definition and other is mathematical definition. In geometrical definition, we will think of p as the distance of p from the origin on a number line and for distance we always use a positive value. When we approach this method we need to identify the point on the number line and to find its distance from the origin. One important concept related to absolute value is that | 0 | = 0 that means whatever is the input either positive value or negative value the output will always be a positive number.
In mathematical definition of absolute value we define a formula
|p| = p if p>= 0
-p if p
in this we see the symbol of p and if it is positive we drop the absolute value bar otherwise in negative value we put the bars.
Do you know how to solve absolute value equations? While solving an absolute value equation, we have to set the quantity inside the absolute value sign equal to the positive and negative value on the other side of equal to (=) symbol. In other terms we can say that solving an absolute value gives an equation in form of ' or ' statement. Solving an absolute equation is a bit tricky as both the negative and positive value become positive.
In this article now we will talk about how to solve fractions and how to solve proportions. Fractions are one of the hardest problem of mathematics. Here are some ways to solve those tricky fraction questions .To solve a fractional equation we transform it into an equation which doesn't have any fractions as we know how to solve simple equations. This method or technique is called as clearing of fractions. Now, moving on to another topic how to solve proportions. Solving proportion is very simple and it just a matter of starting the ratios as fractions. In this two fractions are set equal to each other, cross multiplied and solving the resulting equation. For example:- 2: x = 2:4
firstly, convert equation as
2/x = 2/4
then solve this as
2*2 = 1*x
4 = x
This is the solution of the proportional equation.
