Social Sharing is Taking the Place of Standard Email

Posted On : Jan-20-2011 | seen (772) times | Article Word Count : 380 |

People used to communicate a great deal via email because it was a quick and easy way to share family happenings, work issues, or anything else that was occurring. One person would respond to another’s email and share information this way.
A benefit of sharing information via email is that only the intended recipients read the information contained in the email. This allowed people to share their innermost thoughts and feelings with very close friends and family.

As time has gone by, many people have stopped emailing and moved to the social sharing aspect of society. Social sharing happens on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, or other privately owned social media sites which have chat rooms or social forums. All of these sites allow users to post information about what they are doing at that particular time.

These sites offer a more immediate way to communicate and share information than email. People can access these sites through the Internet which means any technology device that has Internet access can be used. Through the Internet, one will visit the social media site and type in their thoughts, feelings, what they are doing, who they are with, what they are buying, how much it is, and just about anything else one can think of.

The sharing of this kind of personal information on a social media site which can be viewed by almost anyone is called social sharing. Social sharing has pros and cons so people should be careful about their postings.
Posting personal thoughts or feelings and even opinions onto social media sites, may result in difficult situations. Depending on what the comment was and who read it may cause a problem. For example, if one made a comment about a person’s attitude and this comment was read by that particular person this could be an awkward situation.

However, benefits of social sharing also exist. If one is posting about a purchase from a store that is offering a terrific deal, many others could take advantage of this situation. Another benefit is to share congratulatory news regarding work, family, or personal accomplishments.
Many privately owned social media sites offer sites which can be monitored closely to prevent any damaging postings. These sites may also limit the people who can see each posting which can prevent future difficult situations.

Social sharing has taken the world by storm and almost all generations have begun to participate in this type of communication.
