When choosing an SEO Company, just what should you look out for? But more basic than that, are you really comfortable with what people mean these days by SEO?
|
It might seem pretty obvious, but anyone choosing an SEO companyshould really know what the term means, but the trouble is
these days, that modern digital terms often mean different things to different people.
Okay, back to basics. SEO stands for search engine optimisation. Which, in its broadest sense, means exploiting a website’s
ability to attract traffic, users and either conduct an ecommerce transaction, or impart knowledge and information?
Even nowadays there are hundreds of thousands of website owners who believe that all you have to do is stick a website on
the net and hey presto, people will start using it. Wrong. And that simple lack of judgement costs millions when multiplied
across the number of owners creating websites which should, they think, spontaneously start working.
So, people quickly learn that the building of a website is the easy bit. It is the one bit they can control. They can use
their logo, write some good copy, ensure that the structure and navigation works, and use plenty of pics of their happy
features beaming through the internet Magic.
Then reality bites. Why is no-one visiting my site? Why can’t they be bothered? It looks great, says great things and just
looks at our logo, brilliant.
Site build and hosting is merely stage one; a first, and admittedly crucial step, but without the next step, almost
pointless.
SEO is the discipline that will get your website noticed and either trading, or providing a service to those looking for
information. It can be broken down into two parts: onsite SEO and offsite SEO.
The former deals with such issues as keyword selection (the essence of a good site); metadata (these are built from the
selected keywords); structure and navigation (if it doesn’t physically work, then SEO won’t work); webpage copy (what’s
written on the page which should include keywords at the right density and must interest the user); and, finally, content
(again, must be key word loaded and be highly original, relevant and of a high value to the user).
Offsite SEO comes next and will include such things as Social Book Marking; Article Submissions; Directory Submissions;
Online PR; Forum Commenting; and, Social optimisation.
Get these two elements right – and that is why you employ a SEO Company – and you will be rewarded with a site that will
operate in the way that you want.
As with anything, it’s all about getting the basics right and getting the building blocks in place. There is no easy, or
automated way that this can be done. Because every site is unique, the SEO must be tailor made and directed in such a way
as to produce the desired results.
This is the aim with an agency like cayennered.com. It does not produce off-the-peg solutions; a one size fits all. It
prides itself in bespoke solutions. Taking a brief, understanding what’s required and then building the appropriate SEO
strategy.
And that’s the sign of a very good SEO Company.
