Online learning is a great way to further your education or get your degree while keeping your current employment and busy lifestyle. Here are six important keys to success with distance learning.
If you are interested in distance learning you need to keep alert, it
can be tricky and confusing if you are not careful. There are a
number of great online academies out there, but there are just as
many questionable academies out there as well, just waiting for
the uninformed student to walk into one of their tricks. In order to
avoid being scammed by these questionable places you need to be
able to quickly spot their tricks before its too late. You also need to
be able to manage your schedule, time, and assignments to
benefit from distance learning. Here are some most often made
blunders that you need to avoid.

1. If you are interested in distance learning you need to keep alert,
it can be tricky and confusing if you are not careful. There are a
number of great online academies out there, but there are just as
many questionable academies out there as well, just waiting for
the uninformed student to walk into one of their tricks. In order to
avoid being scammed by these questionable places you need to be
able to quickly spot their tricks before its too late. You also need to
be able to manage your schedule, time, and assignments to
benefit from distance learning. Here are some most often made
blunders that you need to avoid.

2. Enrolling in the wrong school
One thing that can end up being troublesome is locating the
collegiate school that fits your needs. Make sure to thoroughly
research any school that you are considering enrolling in. Be sure
that they are accredited and that they are willing to provide you
with proof of their credentials. Any legitimate school will not have a
problem doing this. However, if the place that you are considering
balks at showing you that they are fully accredited, that is a red
flag. Steer clear of diploma mills that disguise themselves as
legitimate schools. These places charge you a immense fee for a
valueless diploma.

3. Don't over pay
Getting your degree or diploma is costly. And if you end up over
paying for it, you will end up paying for it for a long time! It is much
more worth your money to get your degree from a good legitimate
school that is recognized within the community. If you do have to
get some form of financing, make sure to finance necessities only.
You don't want to pay interest on your books and supplies. You
can usually find these things at discounted prices especially if you
are willing to buy them used. Sometimes you just have to spend a
little time looking for them.

4. Transfer your credits
Once you have found the right school and are ready to enroll in
distance courses, get with the schools counselor to find out if your
credits previously earned are transferable. Sometimes not all your
credits will be accepted by the school. In this situation you can
petition the school to accept all your credits. Also, check into
receiving credit for any life or work experience that you have
acquired. Some schools will allow this, although you will need to
provide a portfolio of your work and may need to take some tests,
it can be a time consuming process but it will help you get your
degree faster in the long run.

5. Get linked with other students and professors
Some people are under the impression that you have no contact
with any other students or teachers when you are taking distance
teaching. This is far from the truth. There are many ways to get
connected with others like, online chats, forums, blogs, message
boards and other online resources. Keeping in contact with others
in your same situation can help in many ways. When you are in
contact with others it can help you to maintain your motivation as
well as increase your learning. It is always good to collaborate
with others and study or discuss together. Having a relationship
with your professor is also helpful, especially if you have questions
for them.

6. How to handle prospective employers
Most employers in the current market are computer savvy enough
to know that an online degree is equal to a traditionally earned
diploma. In the past, distance learning online was looked down
upon and even was considered to be a joke by some people. The
problem was, that it was such a new thing, and most people
thought that doing it online was not as hard as actually having to
attend classes. Another thing that contributed to online education
having such a bad reputation were bogus online schools and
diploma mills. People thought that online degrees were just
bought and not earned. Times have changed though and most
employers welcome online degrees and even encourage their
current employees to continue their education using this source.
After all, if their employee wanted to say, get their degree through
traditional schooling they would probably lose that employee.
However, with online education, you can keep your full time job
and take your classes in your own schedule. If you are unsure of
how potential employer feels about online degree, there is no
need to call attention to it on your resume.

There are so many options available for distance learning, do a
little research to find the right place and resources for you. Find
open learning resources available to you such as online
dictionaries, e-zines, e-books, websites, online study groups or
forums within your field of study. Getting things set up to fit your
schedule and lifestyle before beginning will help save you time and
aggravation later.
