Friends, today we all are going to learn about the concepts behind the most interesting topic of Math, Algebra and how can we simplify algebra problems with fractions. I am here to help you to understand it with so much ease and interest.
Algebra is a branch of mathematics which deals with the study of the rules of operations and relations. It is a part of mathematics in which letters and symbols are used in place of numbers and quantities to form an equation and formula. Algebra comes under following categories: Elementary algebra, Abstract algebra, Linear algebra and Universal algebra. But as we move to the higher education, the problems in algebra get more and more complex. Let's take an example to understand what is algebraic equation:
2x + 7y – c
Here 2 and 7 are numbers. x,y and c are variables and +, - are the operators.
In 2x , 2 is the coefficient of x. Similarly in 7y, 7 is the coefficient of y.
10xy : Monomial
2x + 7y : Binomial
3x + 7y – c : Trinomial
Terms that has the same power of the same variables are called Like terms whereas the terms that do not contain the same power of the same variables are called unlike terms. Here are some Algebra problems or worksheets
The sum of the girl's age and half the boy's age is 25. The equation for the same is:
Let girl's age be = x and boy's age be y then equation form is
x + 1/2y = 25
Fractions are the numbers in the form of a/b where a is the numerator and b is the denominator. Algebraic fractions are those terms which have algebraic expression in both numerator and denominator. For simplifying fractions, we simply multiply the numerators by numerators and denominators by denominators
a/b*c/d=ac/bd
Adding and subtracting algebraic expressions
For simplifying a single rule can be memorised for adding or subtracting fractions which is the denominators must be the same
a/c + b/c= a+b/c.
If there occurs the case of different denominators then we can simply take the LCM of denominator terms.
