This was a major attack in which more than 54 people were killed, 42 in India, around seven in Tibet and five in Nepal. The earthquake measuring 6.8 shook the whole Sikkim and many adjacent states in norther India. The epicenter of the earthquake was 64 KM away from Northwest Gangtok. In this major Earthquake more than hundreds were injured and around thirty five people were killed. According to reports five people were killed in West Bengal and a seven year old girl was died because of this earthquake. The earthquake cracked roads of many places and also resulted in land slides and also in many places wide cracks were visible in houses. According to reports three aftershocks occurred within thirty minutes of the first Initial shock that has occurred at magnitude of 5.7, 5.1 and 4.6 Mw. In the capital state of Nepal that is Kathmandu experienced two aftershocks having magnitude of 4.8 Mw. But it was matter of relief that both the aftershocks has no major impact. More about 20 aftershocks appeared throughout the night in Gangtok. And next day after the Sikkim Earthquake some tremors also shock many parts of Maharashtra. This earthquake occurred near the mountainous region that is very copulated area near the Sikkim state. Its imagery is shown in the many parts and has cause heavy damage to buildings and monuments. More than ten thousand people ran out of their home to shelter threescores in a safe place. It has damages power supply and also stopped telephone communications in many parts. Four teams of National Disaster Response force (NDRF) has been sent to Sikkim and according to reports five more teams have been sent from katakana. To remove the blockage of Sikkim and Gangtok route a team of 1o engineers and also a team of twenty doctors are rushed to provide immediate help.
