The birth place of Jazz, New Orleans offers many unique places to visit including visiting the French Quarter, City Park, Garden District, Arts/Warehouse District and Magazine Street.
New Orleans is a hot-spot for nightlife and historical enjoyment. The French Quarter offers a variety of both with 19th century buildings that have been protected by law that are used to this day as hotels and watering holes. The streets are always filled with congregations of people gathering around local musicians. New Orleans history and culture was built around music and still continues to thrive after over 100 years.
For history lovers, New Orleans has history dating back to Native Americans thousands of years ago and is captured through museums, landmarks and gravesites. French Trappers came to the area in the late 1600’s and inhabited the area and in 1763 it came under Spanish rule after the Seven Years War. Through then New Orleans has found its significance in the Civil War, Development of Jazz, and more recently Hurricane Katrina. It’s a city that has been torn by disasters over centuries but brought back together by its culture and music and made its community stronger.
Year round New Orleans has activities and festivals going on like Mardi Gras, Jazz Festivals, Heritage Festival, the Sugar Bowl, Crawfish Festival, New Orleans Saints games and New Years Eve. Every month of the year (almost every weekend) there is a celebration of some kind going on and each one is an unforgettable experience waiting to happen.
New Orleans is a place that is fitting for all kinds of demographics. There are places for young and old singles to mingle and have some drinks, family friendly sites that have interactive activities for kids and for a combination of both. While in New Orleans, prepare to have your horizons broadened with Creole sea food and a massive correcting of all Cajun and Creole misunderstandings.
It is a city that was built in the swamp and thrives on the love of music and culture. Do not drive through the Interstate 10 and think you will not regret dropping in to see.
