An outdoor fireplace is the ultimate in outdoor heating. It allows you to get outdoors and enjoy your backyard, patio, deck or whatever entertaining area you may have year round. If you have cover, all the better as you can get out when the weather is inclement. Either way, even if the weather is fine but still chilly, it won’t make any difference because with an outdoor fireplace, you won’t even feel the cold.
So if you have decided that you would like some sort of outdoor fireplace, the next question is whether to build or buy your fireplace.
There are many different styles of outdoor fireplaces on the market, and it will all come down to your taste and budget. You may have aspirations of building your own fireplace, if so what are the advantages or disadvantages in doing so?
To build a Chiminea, you will need a certain level of skill and it may mean that you need to purchase certain tools to help you do so. It may be more cost effective to buy one. You can buy them relatively cheaply or you can spend a lot – the choice is yours.
A fire pit in the back yard can be as easy as digging a hole and lining it with stones, however you are out in the elements then, it may be fine while it’s not raining, however if you were to choose a readymade fire pit, these can easily sit under cover on your brick paving or concrete. They are usually a pot on legs, unlike the hole in the ground.
A patio heater is not something you will be able to make easily unless you have special skills and even then it may pay you to buy something that has been tested and will not be a hazard. As a lot of them run on gas, there are also certain regulations that are involved. You will need to make sure you have everything correct so nothing explodes. This may sound a little farfetched; however gas can be dangerous to deal with.
To build an outdoor fireplace will also take you quite a bit of time to construct, that’s fine if you have a lot of time, however if you don’t want to waste any time then it may make more sense to purchase a readymade fireplace.
All of the outdoor heaters that you can buy on the market have passed stringent testing. You can be sure that you are buying a product that is completely safe, and have that party much sooner than if you were to make one yourself.
