Most people around the world are of the opinion that sexuality is something that cannot be discussed with other people. What they fail to notice is that it is nothing more than a biological necessity that is required for the sustenance of the human population. It helps to improve the bond between man and woman.
The term sexuality has different meanings. It may refer to the sexual behavior of both male and female in wider terms. It may refer to the subject that deals with sex in terms of biology and in medical terms. It may refer to the sexual behavior of an individual or the sexual orientation of an individual.

Basically the terms focuses mainly on the sexual behavior of a person and the manner in which that person feels sexually attracted to another person either of opposite sex or of same sex. When a person feels sexually attracted to another person of opposite sex that person is called a heterosexual. This is absolutely normal. If a person feels sexually attracted to another person of same sex that person is called a homosexual. Cases have also been reported where a person feels sexually attracted to other individuals of both the sexes.

Many conservative people consider the term sexuality to be a taboo. And that is why they never feel comfortable to discuss the topic in public. According to Sigmund Freud, sexuality is any form of bodily pleasure that can be derived from a human body or the genitalia to be more specific. He said that each and every individual by virtue of their birth is driven by the goal of achieving this bodily pleasure.
Sexuality is controlled by the brain. The brain controls the nerves and each and every bit of muscle in the human body. It also controls the secretion of sexual hormones like
testosterone, estrogen, oxytocin and prolactin that helps in sexual arousal for males and females.

There are several differences between a human male and a human female in terms of anatomy. That is why their bodies response differently to sexual intercourse or the act of sex. The acts of sexuality can be divided into four major phases namely desire, excitement, plateau and orgasm.

During the desire phase the brain controls hormone secretion and the body prepares for an intercourse. The excitement stage consists of foreplay that includes kissing and gently touching various parts of the body. This stage is very important as unlike the male, the female body takes time to respond to the act of sex. The act of intercourse takes place during plateau and the body prepares for orgasm. The orgasm is known as the climax or the height of sexual activity and involves release of tension.

Records have shown that there is a connection between sexuality and religion. For generations the males have been associated with Mars, the Roman God of war. His shield and spear represents the male and is widely accepted as the symbol for male sex in today’s world. Females on the other hand have been associated with Venus, the Roman God of love, sex and fertility. Likewise her symbol is widely accepted as the symbol for female sex in today’s world.
