Popularly known as the twin city of Hyderabad is located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Secunderbad is geographically separated from Hyderabad by the Hussain Sagar. Secunderabad is no longer a separate municipal unit and has become part of Hyderabad. Both cities are collectively known just as Hyderabad outside the state and they together form the sixth largest metropolis in India.
History:
The city of Secunderabad had been an important base for the British army at the beginning of the 19th century. Secunderabad and Hyderabad are known as twin cities as they are located next to each other. Therefore, the history remains almost the same for both the cities.
The city was founded in 12th century. The city showcases some beautiful pieces of architecture from the yesteryears, which serve as major attractions to the people even in the present day.
The major towns near Secunderabad are Jeedimetla Industrial Area, Begumpet, Marredpalli, Bolarum, Trimulgherry and Sanathnagar. A man-made lake, known as Hussain Sagar, divides the two cities. The history of Secunderabad can be traced back to the medieval period. The area was earlier known as Golconda, which was popular for its steel, diamond and printed cloth production. This led to the business development of Secunderabad with Europe and Asia. Aurangzeb, the famous Mughal ruler, had great control over this city.
Culture:
Secunderabad used to be referred to by the locals as Lashkar meaning the army and the city’s culture reflected the same. The city’s culture is defined by its numerous educational institutions and shopping areas. The army and railway institutions in the city also add to its cultural identity. The Nawabs of Hyderabad, had the major contribution in introducing an era of magnificence and sophistication, which inturn imply a strong bearing upon the culture of Secunderabad. The Sardar Patel road is famous for its glistening pearls. Kuchipudi and Perini are the two forms of classical dance that are greatly preferred by the people of the city. The cuisine includes Lamb Kofta Curry, Hyderabadi Biryani, Dum Ka Kheema, Kali Mrich Pasandey, Raw Banana Curry, Ghee Rice, Phirni and Dil Khush.
Weather:
Secunderabad has an equatorial climate throughout the year. Thus summers are too hot and winters are pleasant. The temperature and humidity during the summer months remain high while during winters a mild climate prevails. Summers being hot and humid in April and May. June to September are the monsoon months. The southwest monsoon winds play an important part in causing the rainfall in the city. The climate of Secunderabad can be termed as equatorial.
