Scottsdale, Arizona, is often named one of America’s best places to live by magazines such as Money Magazine, Robb Report, and Relocate America. But it may have to share the honor since Scottsdale also has the best desserts in the world, but that might be one reason that Scottsdale real estate is so in demand. In fact, the World Pastry Team Championship broadcast on TLC took place at the JW Marriot Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in nearby Phoenix, Arizona.

One of 2010’s top ten pastry chefs was Roy Pell of The Phoenician, Scottsdale, AZ. The Phoenician has won several culinary awards including Roy Pell 2009 Team USA, World Pastry Cup, the Lobby Tea Court 2009 Best Place for Afternoon Tea, and Master Baker 2009 Best Bread for Dessert for his Chocolate Cherry Sourdough Bread.

Scottsdale also features many premier resorts and restaurants, and that means it has some top rated dessert spots including the Gelato Spot, Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor, Sweet Republic, and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

- The Gelato Spot Dessert Lounge of Italy in Old Towne Scottsdale offers 36 daily gelatos and 150 rotating types of gelato with Pascucci Coffee. It was voted Best Ice Cream and Best Place to Be Seen in Arizona. It offers heated and misted patios so you can enjoy dessert in any type of weather.

- Another top rated ice cream spot since1958 is the Sugar Bowl Ice Cream Parlor, an old fashioned eatery. Bil Keane, The Family Circle cartoonist, featured the Sugar Bowl many times in his daily comic strips. The Sugar Bowl shop offers Family Circus art for purchase along with other Sugar Bowl memorabilia.

- Sweet Republic artisan ice cream is made using milk and cream from independent Arizona dairy farms and ice cream sticks made from birch wood sustainably harvested in Maine. It was voted The Best in Phoenix and one of USA Today’s best ice cream parlors.

- Sprinkles Cupcakes, located across from Scottsdale Fashion Square, is the original cupcake bakery. It offers more than 20 regular flavors and a handful of seasonal cupcakes such as peppermint.

Still not convinced?

- If you are looking for a Kosher Pareve bakery, Levi Catering Cafe & Bakery creates top-rated made to order cakes and specialty desserts.

- That’s Amore Gelato and Coffee won the 2010 City’s Best Desserts Award. Except for milk and sugar, all of the ingredients for their gelatos come from Italy.

- Honey Moon Sweets Bakery & Dessert Bar in nearby Phoenix has won Phoenix’s top bakery for the past 14 years. Their award-winning cakes have been featured in bridal publications throughout the nation.

Scottsdale truly has some of the best sweet spots in the nation. In fact, it has so many more award winning dessert spots that it would be impossible to try every sweet dessert that the city has to offer.
