Using inkjet printers can be quite costly these days. Here are some practical tips on how to stretch your budget with ink cartridges.
Inkjet printers are regularly used by millions of people in offices and homes all around the world. Many users however are not at all amused at the high cost of Re manufactured ink cartridges needed to run such printers. The reality is that most inkjet printer manufacturers rely on the sale of their brand of Re manufactured ink cartridges to recoup the cost of making the printers themselves.
Current Pricing Model for Cartridges
Majority of printer brands are undervaluing inkjet printers in the market. Whilst this may not seem as a sound business practice, these printer companies are confident because they know that they can offset their losses by ramping up the prices of their Re manufactured ink cartridges.
The cost of inkjet printer cartridges average a little over £9 for every ink volume of 5 ml. This computes to an incredible £1,820 per litre of ink. Over a relatively short period of time, the cost of inkjet printing can be rather prohibitive and certainly impractical for printing ordinary letters and documents.
Maximising Ink Consumption
Nevertheless there are more affordable alternatives to high-priced proprietary inkjet printer cartridges. Here are some practical tips that can help the average user to save on printing costs.
1. Use Low-Quality Mode for General Purpose Printing. When a printer is first installed and setup, the default mode is usually at a normal or average setting which is generally of better quality than what is actually needed for simple documents. General purpose printing, such as those for routine notices, departmental memos, draft reports or simple school assignments, do not really need a rich amount of ink delivered by higher printer settings.
To ensure that you are not wasting precious ink on such non-critical printing tasks, reconfigure your inkjet printer to the low-quality or draft mode as the default. This will force users to adjust printing quality only for really important documents that require higher quality output such as official corporate papers and documents addressed to clients.
2. Avoid Using the Printer’s Cleaning Function. Most inkjet printers have a built-in cleaning function that supposedly improves the quality of your print-outs. That may be true to some extent but the end result is a significant loss of ink.
In many inkjet printers, the automatic cleaning process uses up a lot of ink as it attempts to unclog the cartridge from any build-up of dried ink and dust. The more economical way of cleaning the cartridge is by manually swabbing the unwanted obstruction off the cartridge very carefully with a simple cotton bud or soft cloth. Manufacturers include detailed instruction for this manual cleaning process in their product’s packaging. Unfortunately, a lot of users completely ignore such cheaper instructions despite being an effective methodology.
The use of compatible or remanufactured Re manufactured ink cartridges is another way of beating the high-cost of using inkjet printers. Caution must be observed however with regards to alternative cartridges. Be sure that they come from good sources otherwise you may end up with Re manufactured ink cartridges that are sub-standard or otherwise unusable.
