If you are a parent of a teenager, would you get them an expensive Android smartphone such as Samsung's flagship the S2? This might not be a good idea. The phone is too hot to be in the hands of an inexperienced youth. This phone catches too much attention. Your child might fall prey to shady figures looking for an easy score. Taking a phone such as this from a teen will be as easy as taking candy from a baby. If you are looking for a dependable entry-level touch screen smartphone for your teenage son or daughter, Samsung has launched a handset that you might be interested in. This is the Galaxy Y.
This new handset does not come with superior specifications just like the flagship S2. It only sports a 3.0 inch TFT capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. This is nothing compared to the S2's 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It only comes packed with an 832 MHz single core processor under the hood. Again, this is nothing compared to the 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 dual-core processor Exynos chipset with Mali-400MP GPU for better graphics on the flagship. The phone comes with a 2 megapixel camera. This is nothing compared to the flagship's 8 megapixel camera. Despite the entry-level smartphone's more modest hardware, it can still get the job done. Best of all, shady figures are less likely to try and get the phone off of your child's hands.
Do not count the Samsung Galaxy Y just yet. Despite its modest hardware, it is powered by Android's smartphone-optimized operating system. It is powered by Gingerbread. This iteration of Android is known for boosting performance despite the meager hardware on a mobile phone. In addition to boosting performance, it will also allow the youth to download fun apps from the Android Market. With its Gingerbread virtual keyboard, it will allow teens to enjoy more from IMs and SMS. Best of all, it is more energy efficient. This will allow the youth to chat and send text messages without draining the Samsung Galaxy Y's battery.
These days, it just is not practical to give your teenage son or daughter an expensive smartphone like Samsung's flagship. They might drive you crazy if they lose, break, or get it stolen. With the Samsung Galaxy Y, your mind will be at ease. Furthermore, your teen will get to enjoy a dependable Android smartphone.
