Back in November of this year, Samsung and Google officially unveiled the Galaxy Nexus. This is the new Android flagship. It was also set to directly compete with the iPhone 4S that was released in the market last October. When news spread that the new Android smartphone has been released in the market, many flocked to stores to get their hands on the new device running Ice Cream Sandwich. However, their excitement quickly turned into disappointment when they discovered the volume bug.

What was the volume bug all about? The glitch drops the phone's volume without warning. This means that you would not be able to hear notifications whenever an email, text message, or alert was received. If this wasn't bad enough, the glitch also affected voice calls. Whenever you were on a call, it would spontaneously lover the volume. This would result in not being able to hear the person on the other line. This rendered making voice calls on the new phone useless.

Not all of the phone's owners were affected by this malfunction. It only affected users on a 900 MHz 2G frequency used by a few network operators. For network operators that did not make use of this frequency, no bugs were experienced.

Since weeks went by without a fix, independent developers developed an unofficial solution to the problem. However, their solution required users to go through a tedious process. It also required users to unlock the bootloader of the Samsung Galaxy nexus. Unfortunately, this would void the warranty of the handset. This is something no one in their right mind would choose to do not unless they really knew what they were doing.

Fortunately, Google has recently rolled out an OTA (over the air) update that promises to address the volume bug on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. All users were required to do was check if the update was received by their phones. It did not require users to go through the complicated process of unlocking the phone's bootloader.

According to the latest reports, the problem has now been eliminated by the latest update. No longer did the phone drop the volume while on a call. This also meant that you would no longer miss text messages, alerts, or notifications.

With the volume bug eliminated by the latest OTA update, users can now enjoy everything Ice Cream Sandwich has to offer on the new Android flagship the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
