The word salary originates from Latin: salarium which referred to the money paid to the Roman army soldier's for the purchase of salt. It was used in ancient times to preserve foods. Jesus said, "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men."
Salt is a mineral that is composed primarily of sodium chloride. Salt is one of the oldest, most ubiquitous food seasonings and salting is an important method of food preservation. The taste of salt (saltiness) is one of the basic human tastes. Salt for human consumption is produced in different forms: unrefined salt (such as sea salt), refined salt (table salt), and iodized salt. It is a crystalline solid, white, pale pink or light gray in color, normally obtained from sea water or rock deposits. Chloride and sodium ions, the two major components of salt, are needed by all known living creatures in small quantities.

While people have used canning and artificial refrigeration to preserve food for the last hundred years or so, salt has been the best-known food preservative, especially for meat, for many thousands of years. Evidence of salt use goes back 6,000 years ago. There's proof found near Yuncheng in Shanxi, China. Also it's use in Egypt in noted as far back as the 3,000 B.C. As well as in ancient Phoenicia, Greece and Rome.

The word salary originates from Latin: salarium which referred to the money paid to the Roman army soldier's for the purchase of salt. The word salad literally means "salted," and comes from the ancient Roman practice of salting leaf vegetables. Too much or too little salt in the diet can lead to muscle cramps, dizziness, or electrolyte disturbance, which can cause neurological problems, or death. Drinking too much water, with insufficient salt intake, puts a person at risk of water intoxication (hyponatremia).

Jesus said, "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." (Matthew 5:13) Salt is also evidence of the following things:

1. A symbol of a binding covenant (Leviticus 2:13)

2. A healing and cleansing aid (2 Kings 2:20-21)

3. A stimulant to the appetite (Job 6:6)

4. A preventive of decay (Luke 14:34-35)

5. A promoter of peace (Mark 9:50)

6. A stimulant to our testimony (Matthew 5:13)

7. An evidence of grace (Colossians 4:6)

Jesus warned us all not to lose our saltiness. In ancient times, when salt lost its savor, it was then taken out and cast into the footpaths. It was used much as gravel is in our day. Its only purpose then was to kill out the weeds that might grow in the road, and for me to walk on to keep their sandals out of the mud. Literally, it was to be trodden under the foot of men. Today many have lost their saltiness by compromising with the world or traditions of men, instead strictly using of the word of God. We are cautioned by God to love not the world or the things therein, for it will all pass away one day. The person who does the will of God will abide forever. (1 John 2:15-17) The Lord commands us to love Him will our all, and our neighbor as ourselves. ( This leads little room for anything else. (Mark 12:30-31) The lukewarm Laodicean Church age that we presently live in lacks this type of total commitment and victory. (Revelations 3:14-22) For this reason the judgment of God will come suddenly upon this world. Our failure to keep the world from sin and worldly compromise will help to bring on the Tribulation time period.
