The salmon has been the duty of many coastal regions around the world, and its the common point of many traditions related to sea-hunting. This oily fish is considered to be a healthy one due to its high levels of proteins, high Omega-3 fatty acids, and also vitamin D. It is also loaded with high-quality protein source filled with vitamin B-12 and iron that makes it a delectable hair loss find.
"Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support scalp health," says Andrea Giancoli, MPH, RD, a dietitian in Los Angeles and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. "A deficiency can result in a dry scalp and hair, giving it a dull look." If youre a vegetarian, include one or two tablespoons of ground flaxseed in your daily diet for some plant-based omega-3 fats that will guarantee a shiny, healthy hair and prevent hair loss.
Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation of the arteries and digestive system, reduce likelihood of certain cancers of colon, prostrate and kidneys etc., improve skin texture, add shine to eyes, skin, hair and nails, prevents hair loss, and help in the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon. The fatter the salmon, the more nutritious and healthy it is. It is a good protein supplement of older or sick people as it is easy to digest. In some parts of the world, it is cheaper than other sources of animal proteins such as meat, poultry etc.
The scientific name of the salmon family is Oncorhynchus, which is followed by other suffixes depending upon the variety, such as Cherry Salmon, Pink Salmon etc. The salmons have a peculiar life cycle. They lay their eggs near the mouth of the rivers. The eggs hatch there, develop into fries and start their journey towards seas. They grow in the sea into adult salmons and again go back to the rivers to reproduce, where most of them die after laying eggs.
Usually with a red to orange flesh color due to its carotenoid pigments, the salmon can be smoked, grilled or even eaten raw in some cultures, like the Asian, which uses it for sushi or when making sashimi. Since salmon has been a source of inspiration in many mythologies, just like in the Celtic, Welsh or the Norse, its really no wonder that it gained a wide popularity in the culinary areas around the world.
This well known and favorite fish is also a very good source of minerals like Selenium, Zinc, Phosphorus, Calcium and Iron. So when it comes to foods that pack a beauty punch, it's hard to beat salmon.
