A new business intelligence conference envisions us in a smarter world driven by predictive analytics. More than 20 companies will showcase business intelligence solutions in a variety of fields including bioinformatics and predictive analytics.

Keynote speakers include: energy-policy analyst, transport economist and environmental activist Charles Komanoff, recently featured in Wired magazine; Brian Knauss, Director, Analytic Platforms, eBay; Cheryl Max, Director, Functional Capabilities, World Wide Demand Programs, IBM; Dr. Eric Topol, a pioneer in advancing individualized and wireless medicine; and Pamela Scanlon, Executive Director of San Diego’s Automated Regional Justice Information System (ARJIS). Others include Michael Victoroff, M.D., Chief Medical Officer for Parity Computing; Amy Chui, Vice-president of Risk Analysis and Management at Sempra Energy, and Revathi Subramanian, Director of Research & Development with the SAS Institute, Inc.

Among the more than 20 innovative predictive analytics technologies to be demonstrated are:

SANDAG (traffic optimization/management) -- Demonstrates how traffic simulation works in conjunction with an $8 million grant received to implement Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) to study the operation of the I-15 freeway corridor as a single multi-model system as opposed to separate assets. Shows how simulation can impact planning a region’s infrastructure decisions, and how information is leveraged in optimizing roadway operations and policy-making.

Critical Mention (broadcast news text analysis) -- Every minute, Critical Mention's database ingests nearly 30 hours of television news and content from around the world, transcribes it into text, translates to English, scores and indexes every word and video clip. Within 2 minutes of broadcast, the content is accessible as business intelligence data for financial trading platforms, government security, political campaigns, brand monitoring and other applications. See the how the CIA might monitor foreign broadcasts, edit video footage by highlighting text in the transcription, and distribute clips by email.

Parity Computing (medical text analysis) -- Demonstrates provider-facing healthcare analytics products. These clinical decision support products interpret human-written medical text and real-time device data to save lives, reduce costs, and help hospitals assess themselves. As part of the demo, Parity will pop open the hood to show how human-written medical text is “understood” and interpreted by computers.

SmartDrive (driver safety analysis) -- The SmartDrive Safety system uses in-vehicle recorders to capture video, audio and vehicle data to analyze driver behavior for fleet vehicles. Advanced algorithms model and predict driving behavior, enabling companies to identity and coach the drivers most at-risk for a collision or adverse event. The system improves driver safety and performance, saving money and saving lives.

ECODOG (consumer energy monitor) --Smart meters are here to stay, and soon everyone in the US will be affected. FIDO Home Energy Monitoring System will show how consumers can gain visibility into their personal electricity consumption and take control over their energy use.
