More than 90,000 students come to study in Canada every year and even more come to Canada to learn English or French. The Government of Canada has expressed its commitment to attract more international students to Canada and ultimately tap into this source for highly educated workers to contribute to its labour force. Canada has outlined its overall policy objectives related to student recruitment in its 2007 Budget and accompanying economic plan, Advantage Canada, in which it stated that it encourages the “best foreign students to attend Canadian colleges and universities by marketing the excellence of Canada’s post-secondary education system”. This is accompanied by policy objectives designed to retain international students to pursue a “knowledge advantage” in which Canada will create “the best-educated, most skilled and most flexible workforce in the world”. These objectives were also reinforced in the federal government budget of 2008.
Before you can apply for a study permit, you must have been accepted at a recognized school, university or college in Canada. Universal Resettlement and Career Solutions is registered representative of many eminent Education Institutes across the globe. If your program of study is six months or less but you intend to continue your studies in another program you should apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. This will allow you to apply to extend your stay as a student from within Canada. Otherwise, if you do not hold a study permit you will have to apply for one outside Canada.
Requirements for Study Permit:
You must show the officer that you meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations and that you will be in Canada for a temporary stay. You must also:
Satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.
Have a letter of acceptance from an educational institution.
Prove that you have money for the duration of your stay in Canada to pay for :
a. tuition fees,
b. living expenses for yourself and accompanying family members, and
c. Transportation costs to and from Canada for yourself and accompanying family members.
Be law-abiding and have no record of criminal activity (you may be asked to provide a Police Clearance Certificate).
Produce any additional documents requested by the officer to establish your admissibility.
Not be a risk to the security of Canada.
Be in good health (complete a medical examination, if required).

Few Important Facts to know:
September, January and May start dates. Application deadlines are generally 4-5 months in advance. Include your complete academic transcripts including mid-term grades and, where required, language test scores.
It is possible to get a ‘Conditional’ Acceptance from the college in Canada, without submitting the IELTS. But the visa officer will reject this file. So, it is advisable to do IELTS test before applying for College acceptance as most of the Institutes require them before they issue an offer.
Students are only allowed to work for first six months within the campus of educational institution. After 6 months, you will have to apply for work permit which may allow you to work not more than 20 hours per week outside the campus.
Your family members who also wish to come to Canada must apply by filling out their own temporary residence application (visitor, student or worker).
Your accompanying children may attend school in Canada. You must apply for their study permit at the same time as your application.
Students must get medical insurance as well, sometimes this is charged along with the course fees itself.
Students can apply for a post-graduation work permit—a one-time opportunity—during the 90- day transition period on completion of their academic program if they fulfil all of the requirements. There is no need for HRSDC confirmation.
A work permit under the Post Graduate Work Permit Program cannot be valid for a longer period than the length of the student’s studies.
Every student coming to Canada must come with the intention to leave back to their country of origin after their studies. However there are some Immigration programs under CEC (Canadian Experience Class) and some Provincial Programs where students can apply for Permanent Residence if they fulfil the required conditions.
If you have already arrived in Canada and do not attend an academic institution, removal procedures will be initiated against you.
Average expenses for a single person in Canada is $10,000 per year.
