Search engine optimization also know as SEO is a process of using specific techniques such as crawling, indexing, processing, calculating relevancy and retrieving results to get a website onto the first page of any major search engine site such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. Crawling refers to the action of searching the net for the most relevant information derived from related keyword searches. This is done by an automatic navigator called a spider or a bot. Indexing, is a database of many websites created by these spiders that are robotic web crawlers that search the internet finding websites that are frequently visited. These robotic spiders crawl through a websites, content and pages indexing them for relevance and popularity of the site by adding the able websites information to an index. These indexed websites are very important to advertisers because if their website isn't in one of these indexes on Google or other major search engine sites, chances are not many people are clicking on there website meaning not as many people will see the site and that alone will effects there business in a negative way. After a bot retrieves the usable information from these websites it enters the step of processing. Like human beings process information when it is given to us the (SEO) processing stage does basically the same thing, except it uses a spider or bot to do the processing and decides whether a website is relevant and adds it to the database.
Once a website is added to the index it is calculated by relevance and popularity. Some ways this can be done is by the following: First, setting up a temporary PPC campaign to get an idea about how much traffic a website gets, second, using web analytics to track organic traffic by keywords. Finally, estimate volume with Google's search-based keyword tools. As you can see there are a lot of steps that these little cyber spiders work through just too make sure that what is popular and relevant is on the first page of major search engine sites. The final stage of the SEO process is retrieving and it's simply, just the process of taking the search results and displaying them on the first page of major search engine sites such as Google. Once put through this process a website can receive ranking. Every website wants to get top ranking on these popular search engines, but what is necessary to achieve this is the websites ability to attract people looking for your service or product. What's relevant isn't necessarily what's popular.
