Legendary British rocker Rod Stewart is coming back to Australia in February 2012 with his "The Hits Tour". Taking a break from his current stint at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Stewart, who is one of the biggest selling artists of all time, will perform many of his most well-known hits from his long and successful singing career that spans nearly five decades.
Rod Stewart first gained worldwide prominence with the blues-rock band, the Jeff Beck Group in the 1960s. This band not only included one of the greatest rock guitarists ever in Jeff Beck, it also included Ron Wood; a member of the Rolling Stones for over 30 years, and Aynsley Dunbar, who is one of the most respected drummers in rock history. After recording two very successful albums with the Jeff Beck Group, Stewart formed his own band, the Faces with Rod Wood in tow. The Faces released five albums, with the most prominent album being "A Nod is as Good as a Wink...to a Blind Horse", which featured one of Stewart’s most famous songs, "Stay With Me".
Stewart started his solo career in 1969 and his first two solo albums received measurable success. But it was his third album, "Every Picture Tells a Story" that put him into superstar status. This 1971 album, which is considered to be one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone Magazine, went #1 in both the UK and the United States. Also one of the songs on this landmark album was "Maggie May", which is likely to be his most famous song and best seller.
By the 1970s, Stewart continued his solo career with a wide collection of familiar hits such as "You Wear it Well", "Tonight’s the Night", and yet another #1 hit, "You’re in My Heart (The Final Acclaim)", which also made #1 in Australia. The album that contained this song was "Footloose & Fancy Free", and had another very popular song, the lively "Hot Legs". Towards the end of 1978, Stewart came out with another mega-hit album, "Blondes Have More Fun", with its Disco era-influenced hit, "Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?"
In the early1980s, Stewart experienced a moderate slump in his pop rock music career with some modest hits in "Young Turks", "Some Guys Have All the Luck" "Baby Jane" and "Infatuation". However by the late 1980s, he regained prominence with yet another hit in the Bob Dylan song, "Forever Young".
In 1994, Rod Stewart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall and Fame and he has continued his successful singing career well into the next century with the chart topping albums "Stardust: The Great American Songbook, Volume III" and "Still the Same..Great Collections of Our Time".
Rod Stewart will be performing many of his most familiar pop rock music hits in his current tour. He has seven concerts scheduled in Australia touring Perth, Adelaide, Hunter Valley, Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane.
Joining Rod on tour throughout Australia is none other than Australia’s own hit maker Diesel, whose latest album Under The Influence (Liberation) was released recently to critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone summing things up quite simply with "Damn but this kid can play".
Australian fans are ready to experience Rod Stewart and sing their favourite pop rock songs at the top of their lungs. Songs he might perform include "The First Cut is the Deepest","Twistin’ the Night Away", "Have You Seen the Rain" and "Downtown Train".
