Menorca has only 62,000 inhabitants on its sunny Mediterranean island with the Mediterranean sun shining down on its impressive whitewashed homes, reflecting the dazzle of white all around. The complementary lush countryside against the bright blue sky and turquoise sea brings a relaxing atmosphere to this amazing island with just these basic colors of Menorca: white, green and blue. Stepping on the island is like reaching your favorite destination, such as in the Promised Land effect, as the locals and everything else are nice and simple. However, it’s very strange that Menorca is not as renowned as other Spanish regions in the eyes of worldwide tourism.
About the island
Menorca’s coastline is ever changing with its solid rocks, coves and beaches that are magnificent and relaxing. Some are secluded and away from public scrutiny while others are up for discovery, with many taking on some form of development at the moment. This island is only 47 km by 15 km with a 200 km coastline. As such, it is all coasts for Menorca. The only factor that is constant on this island is the Mediterranean Sea, which gushes all around. It is an ideal spot for all water sports, with the immense number of coves and naturally formed harbors. The landscape in general is quite level with Mount Toro being the highest point, where a shrine stands commemorating a patron saint of the island.
The shortest route to this island is via Barcelona by sea or via Palma by ferry. Regular flights from Barcelona make this island quite accessible in order to behold its unique English characteristics with Mah architecture on the local houses. The northern port side holds the San Antonio Estate or better known as the Golden Farm, which was purportedly, by legend, Admiral Nelson’s residence while on the island.
