After numerous clinical trials and hundreds of happy and satisfied customers and patients, we are still sometimes amazed by the effect the Prologel formulation can have on patients who have suffered discomfort and pain for months – even years. Creator of ProloGel, Dr. Howard Rosen explains a recent treatment he conducted on an adult male with limited range of motion, and severe pain in his left shoulder.
A patient, we’ll call him Richard, comes to see me, just before I’m to go on a medical mission to China. Richard has had four shoulder operations, including a total shoulder replacement, and still he can’t lift his arm. The picture (Image at right) shows how high he can raise his arm, he literally cannot lift it any higher than that. He’s gained a significant amount of weight as a result of this physical impairment and pain, and he’s very depressed.
Initially, he came to me to be treated for the pain. You have to understand, after that many surgeries, he didn’t believe anything could be done to heal the shoulder, so he just wanted to find a way to manage the pain. The depth of the area where he was experiencing pain was quite deep. I didn’t want to inject him in the affected area [using prolotherapy] because in one of his surgeries, metal had been inserted into the shoulder area, and these circumstances can lead to a serious condition, if infection were to occur. It’s an uncommon side effect, but I didn’t want to take the chance, so I used only Prologel to treat Richard’s shoulder topically.
I applied the gel to his shoulder using an ultrasound – we call this prolophoresis – for approximately five minutes, then took this picture five to ten minutes later (Image at left). Because I was leaving on a medical mission, I made some small prolotherapy injections under his skin. This was when Prologel was still in the testing stage, and we were still learning how it performed. The only reason I injected him was because I was going to be gone, and I was afraid he’d get depressed if the effects of the gel didn’t hold long enough.
When I returned five weeks later and followed up with him, he was still experiencing the same benefits he had in my office after the initial treatment, but now he was using only Prologel.
He did not want any more injections, he said, “The gel is all I need.” He’s getting a permanent result out of it, he said Prologel is his Godsend and I haven’t seen him since. He’s so happy. Best of all, he had already lost 50 pounds in that five weeks, had more energy, and was just genuinely happy – the depression is gone, and he feels he’s getting his life back. He still says he doesn’t need any more injections. Tell me that’s not something.
