Put the Work Aside and Enjoy the Holidays

It is an easy reading article about stay from works a while and enjoys the holiday.
The economic situation is getting better now, but it seems not good enough. Having a job in such this economy seems a pretty nice thing. Such pressure makes people to keep thinking about work emails on holiday from time to time. And more and more workers will stay plugged in even when they are trying to get away from work for a while.

Linda just finished her one-week-vacation after a long time of work. She and I went to visit places that we had been planning to long time ago. She activated her “out of office” auto-reply message and leaving her voicemail behind. But every night before going to bed she would say, “Maybe I should check out my inbox, in case there’s something important.”…

She has been working for the company for many years. She loves the job. She seems to put all her time into the job and have no time for her families and friends. So I suggested her taking some time away from work, to visit places we plan to go. She said she knew it was a good time for her to stay away from work a while and relax, but she cannot help thinking about the work-maybe only the e-mails.

But it seems that she’ not alone. I’ve read a report that through a survey from Expedia.com finding that nearly a third of workers-up from about 25 percent the previous year, according to the Baltimore Sun-admitted to checking their work e-mail or voicemail while sitting by the pool, hiking in the hills, or otherwise trying to take some time off.

The rise in connected vacationers could explain another worrying statistic from last month’s Expedia survey that the 55 percent of workers who say they’re not “feeling rejuvenated” after they come back from the vacations.

But why this would happen? Don’t they having their vacations? Don’t they just put the work aside and enjoy their holiday? Why do they habitually tap away on their office BlackBerrys even when they’re supposed to be unwinding in the places they want to go?

I’m sure there are some people who really need to stay connected, such as brain surgeons, four-star generals, secret agents, and the like. What about others? They may because they like to feel important.

Some people have to check in because their bosses expect them to, with the work on the first day after vacation. If they don’t check those mails on your days off, they may experience the lingering feeling that there’s always someone else more willing who’d be happy to take place with them at a moment’s notice.

We are humans, not machines. If a person goes too long without a break, including when you’ve been answering office e-mail all day, the quality of your work begins to suffer, not to mention the productivity. If you don’t put down your BlackBerry on your vacation, then what’s the difference of your vacation with the working day?

I won’t play games or doing others on working, but I won’t take all the work in my vacation also. I will try to tune out. And if I have no plans for outdoor adventure, I may play some games, watch movies, and read some e-books. Well, you can also do it on the plane and make the trip no so boring. Besides, you don’t want me blowing your blissful vacation high by clutching my smartphone in the chaise lounge next to yours, do you?

Linda looks much professional and capable while at work, but looks tired and exhausted after work. She said she must need more sleep, but I think she needs some fresh air, which was the reason that I recommended her to go out and find something new. I am sure that she doesn’t want to go stark raving mad at her desk. You don’t want to, right?

She’s going on her vacation. She can put herself more into the trip now, and I’ve just read her blog, where she uploads many pictures. She shows her big smile in the sun. She looks happy and beautiful.

Well. I think I also need some breaks from work some time later…
