The city is the home to large number of temples, beaches, museums, historical monuments and other attractions has attracted visitors from every nooks and corner of the world. A place with many names over the centuries - Hilgiri, Niladri, Hilachal Purushottam, Sankhakshetra, Srikehetra, Jagannath Dham, Jagannath Puri - Puri is dominated by two great forces: the sea (Bay of Bengal) with its ever changing shape of constant motion, the other, the great temple of Lord Jagannath, a static, but no less dominant force. The city is famous for its Jagannath Temple was constructed by Raja Ananta Varman Chodaganga Dev in 12th century A.D. This is the land where millions of devotees reach every year to pull the royal chariots of the Lord, Balabhadra and Subhadra during the annual Rath Yatra Festival and this is where the Lord visits his aunt and enjoys being pampered by sweetmeats. Much of the old world Puri remains - in its winding lanes, stalls lining the beautiful beach and the numerous festivals celebrated in honour of the Lord. Dominated by the heavenly forces, you must set aside at least 3 days to move around Puri. The visitors can pay a visit to the popular Jagannath Temple in Puri and offer prayers or they can even spend some quality time in Puri beach. A large number of colorful festivals and events are also regularly held in Puri like the celebrated Ratha Yatra Festival in Puri. People take part in the festivals and events in Puri with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Places to see:
The Jagannath temple, a massive temple structure belonging to the Kalinga School of architecture along with the white sand beaches along the Bay of Bengal are the major attractions in Puri. Moreover, the Gundicha ghar, which was the home of Lord Krishna’s aunt, is also an oft visited site especially during the Rath yatra.
Sri Jagannath Temple: The temple stands majestically on an elevated platform in the heart of the city and was built in the twelfth century by the Ganga King Chodagangadeva.
Beaches in Puri: Puri’s white sand beaches are well known all over the country. They are perhaps the only walkable beaches on the eastern coastline that are carpeted with clean white sand. It is also worthwhile to request the local fishermen for a boat ride into the sea.
Raghurajpur: The artists village of Raghurajpur, 16 km from Puri, is famous for its patachitras created by traditional chitrakaras, who have, for centuries, also churned out palm-leaf etchings with exquisite detail. Quite a few of the craftsmen are winners of national awards.

There are several attractions in Puri and it would offer the travelers a unique opportunity to witness the sunrise and sunset. The temples, beaches, lakes, crafts, festivals draws travelers from all across the globe.
Air: Bhubaneshwar is the nearest airport i.e. 60kms from Puri. It is well connected to the other major cities of India.
Rail: Puri is a terminus on the East Coast Railway having direct express and super fast train links with New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata. The station is about one km North of the town. Cycle rickshaws and auto rickshaws compete aggressively to get you to a hotel.
