Madrid is a Spanish city that has endless prospects whether it is about holidays, leisure, shopping, culture, celebrations or business. It is lively city that attracts tourists and Spaniards alike. You can spend your time shopping, appreciating art, just walking around the pedestrian friendly streets, parting or sightseeing. Since it is the central most location of Spain, it also is a versatile transportation hub of the entire country. Whether it is about travelling inside Madrid or the suburbs, usage of public transportation systems in this Metropolitan is convenient, safe and an economical mode of commuting.

Use of metro is considered to be the best mode of commuting from one place to other. In fact the Madrid's subway system is one of the world's biggest and also the most complete one. The new lines that have been created provide access suburb and every direction in the capital. Madrid is divided into zones and for each zone there a different prices. However, as a tourist you're only need to travel in the first zone. You may also buy tourist tickets which will help you to avail unlimited use for 3 to 5 days along with some discounts if you visit the museum.

You can also choose to travel by bus in the Madrid city. In fact red buses can be a good alternative to metro and can use the same tickets that you bought from the metro station. Alternatively you can also buy tickets from the driver. If you're traveling outside the Madrid City and you'll need to take the green bus. You can get bus travel information from the guidebook that is available at tourist information office. If you have to go long-distance some other problems other than Madrid, then you need to take a long distance bus which will be available from various bus stations like Avenida de America, Mendez Alvaro or Plaza Eliptica.

You may also try local train service such as Cercanias line. Train stations in Madrid are independent but can be found near the metro stop. The Cercanias are a great option for medium distance trips, typically for day trips in which you have to move out of the city but stay within the province lines. AVE or normal train can also be used. Traveling to a popular destination like Sevilla, Barcelona or Granada can be easy by AVE, which is a high-speed train service. This transportation system can be a bit costlier than bus service but saves a considerable amount of time.
