Protonix used in treatment of acid reflux problems , in ulcers & cancer of esophagus. Headache , diarrhea , Insomnia are its common side effects. This article reviews its usage and side effects.
Protonix is primarily used to help decrease the body’s acid in its stomach. It’s a form of a proton inhibitor and it functions by shutting down some of the cells located in the stomach which are in charge of producing acid. There is a generic version of this drug known as pantoprazole and typically it’s given in the form of either 20mg or 40mg tablets that are delayed response. They are also available in delay released solution.


It’s often designed or healing the esophagus from damage of GERD or reflux disease. It’s helped individuals who have Ellison syndrome which is an over production of stomach acid. This medication in addition has become a class B drug for pregnant women meaning that there are no studies currently that show how this drug could react to pregnant women as well as their unborn child. This medication can be passed on to the baby through the breast milk and therefore may have severe adverse effects on the child.


This medication should not be used for long periods of time as there is a risk of their stomach becoming weak as well as the lining and also a decrease in the amount of B12 that is in the blood.
